I didn't see many comments that were hard. I saw lots that were the same arguments I have always seen when people are challenged in their established norms.
Scotty, don't worry. Your revolution will keep going. ;-)

I guess if you had only played with Grids I would understand the worry about going gridless, but for those who had been gridless in the past (old AD&Ders) or have played wargames that are 100% gridless, what is the hangup? Anyone who has played a wargame without grids knows how easy it is. Yet there are those who just can't imagine D&D without a grid.

I still don't understand the gamers who have played miniature wargames having a problem with Gridless. I have played thousands of games using minis on a table and using a ruler to measure movement etc.
Stargrunt, Warhammer 40k, Sword & Flame, Napoleon's Battles, and Flames of War just to name a few. Each had no grid. Each moved along a ruler. Movement was not along predrawn grids.
Yes I have heard people I played 40k with whine about the idea of D&D without a grid. Did WotC do that good of a job brainwashing folks?

As for using "faces" for NPC identification, we have used 3x5 cards for years with faces glued to one side. The faces could come from anywhere. Magazines, internet, etc. One of my favorite finds was a stack of two boxes full of old National Geographics from the 50's through the 90's. We must have cut out 100's of pictures that week. I would suggest that you need not wait for Paizo to put out face decks to have tons of NPC faces. ;-)

At least with negative comments you can sometimes draw useful criticisms from them. If they are honest criticism and not asshat comments, I agree. But I have seen some comments that are clear troll comments or stupid "this vid suks" kind of stuff. Those kinds of comments are useless and should be ignored.

I made a pink castle.... I'm ashamed to post this I think it is wonderful you made the castle for her. As a father myself I do respect those fathers that take the time to be interactive with their kids. Well done.

I randomly get negativity on my channel also..... i just ignore it.. I think this is the best way to go in most cases on the internet. For some reason there are people who seem to enjoy posting negative comments or clicking dislikes just for fun.

I'm a player and I want to help my dm make some tiles. Is there anyway I could help with out ruining the surprise of the encounter? Ask your DM. He may ask you to make things that will not impact the game and yet need to be made.

I have bought and traded many from Bartertown. But if you are looking for specific singles then I have used several sellers on ebay, as you have already listed. EDIT: Added Link

interesting effort. I think they look good. I did agree, it would be nice to know why the corregate showed through. But overall, I am sure they will work wonderful.

Well there has been talk of rebasing mage knight figs, but if we are gridless is it too distracting to paint or flock MK bases instead of changing them to fit D&D style. I agree that at first look there seems to be no reason to do it. But for me, two issues: 1) I dislike that the bases are all the same size and I can not show a "large" monster from a "small" one. When I rebase, I base them on the size base I want to figure to be. 2) I also admit I dislike how much taller they are then any other base I use. I hate the "standing on a stage" feel. But that is just why I do it.

Yes, any of us have. The difference for me is these are a series of six $20 books. I have never dropped $120 just to steal ideas.
Some people say they have taken a year and a half to three years to run one set of six. Yet they sell out of every one at the FLGS. One $20 book a month. Two sets a year. I keep thinking they will hit the saturation point but they don't. (Not that I want anything bad for Paizo).

We just completed that adventure path. 2 1/2 years of weekly sessions. This does make me curious. If each of these APs take years to play, why do they pop them out twice a year? I have had this thought before. And of course it does nto stop me from buying but it is an interesting question.

flankbonus,
Great Job on those. O really liked the stands on the bridges. That texture would be great in several situations I would imagine.
Enjoy your game.

Guess it must be by location. My Michael's has a whole aisle of just small wooden stuff.

I was not so much thinking of selling the stuff as I was showing it is worth the time to make vs buying pre-made. I figure most of the arguments people would have are around why spend the time when I can buy. So while I agree some do it for fun, some do it so they can have fun.

Shouldn't a true cost analysis include something regarding the time spent building the item?
Shouldn't time have a greater value than zero?

Once I passed my second thousand figures I realized I would never, ever have the time and money to make them standard bases. So I follow some basic rules and leave it at that.
1) If they are an army for a game I make sure the army is standard for that army. ---Example: My Epic Guard and my Epic Space Marines do not match but the Guard all match each other. 2) If they are already based I leave them alone. ---Example: A friend gave me a very nicely painted Iron Golum with a woodland base. I left it alone. 3) Spend time and effort on the figures that will spend a lot of time on the table and ignore those who may never make it to the table. ---Example: My peronal PC that played in a weekly game for two years was done up real nice, but my d&d colossal red dragon is still standing on his plain black base.
As for the question of flock matching the battlefield: I say flock them as you want them to look and not to worry about the battlefield. Too many battlefields to match them all. For example, I own a simple green table cover that I use when I play Epic. Put it down and add some buildings hills etc. My friend has a grey cloth and he bought GW ruins etc. No one has ever said my armies looked bad because of their bases not matching the battleground. But they have given me a hard time when my bases were unpainted/flocked. ;-)

vipertek247,
I think you misunderstood my post. I am not adding grids to new tiles. I am using pre-bought maps that have grids already printed on them. Money I spent before DM scotty was on Youtube. I was just pointing out that in using these maps with grids already on them did not force us to play using grids. We just ignored the "black lines" and used our rulers.

So I was trying to deside what to do: I love the idea of Gridless Play but I already own a lot of tiles and maps with the grid on them. Lots of money spent.
Last night I pulled out one fo the maps and played out a small encounter. We just ignored the grid and played as if the grid was not there. It was fine. After a few moments of trying to ignore the lines, it worked.
Have the rest of you tried to play "gridless" using your maps etc?
