I love your work Bloodchoke (and if you can do terrain this well, you can paint minis. It just takes a good set of paints and practice.) It was cool to finally see the scale on that Reaper young dragon, that you used as the green dragon. i have been debating on getting one and I will for sure now. Your players must have really enjoyed the games with terrain like that! Great work!

by the way. i paintet my very first mini today. looks like... dodo, but it still turned out better than expected. to have a look, just click the prison tile lnk in the top post. For a "first mini", not to bad at all... keep at it, the only way we improve is through practice...

Wow! monkeywithtacos - Yes I have been to Bullhead city a few times. You probably have to go to Vegas or maybe Kingman to see a game store ? If you ever get a chance to make it down to the valley let me know, we can get lunch (and or )do some gaming / check out valley game stores. Sounds good! =) Yeah, Vegas is where I head to, there's a cool one in Henderson that I like. Kingman doesn't have one that I am aware of, sadly.

Nice video - I enjoy Bens RPG Pile blog. I live about twelve miles from their game store in Mesa AZ - Gamers Inn. I play in Warmachine tournaments and buy some figs / paint from them. I don't know them personally, but they have a lot of respect in the local game community. Last night I played with a new RPG group in a comic book store, the owner of the store is thinking about expanding into games so he started talking to us about the hobby and what we would want if he added games. He said that Ben and his co owner were incredibly friendly, open and honest in talking about games and the business of games. It is indeed a small and interesting world. Thanks for posting this. Hah! A fellow Arizonian! I'm about 3 1/2 north of you on the Colorado River in Bullhead, Neil. I gonna have to get down there and check out the store their in Mesa. Ben's always waving their flag and raving about them! Very cool to have a chance to influence the direction a new venue can go with gaming and help build that foundation. Wish we had an FLGS up here at all, let alone one that would do something like that... Very cool indeed!

DMScotty? Can you share the brand name of the crystals you used in your crystal making video? Or what they are called?
Looked on-line and I think I am finding stuff similar but would like to be sure to find the right stuff. Thanks!

I think it would be great in certain situations, but I wouldn't want to use it for everything. Unless I was using them the way that guy was (playing gridded, using 3d walls, etc). I certainly allows for versatility with that playstyle.
As I think I said before, it'd be great for adding the illusion of depth to a pit or chasm, or for a smooth liquid surface, and even to vary the forest floor terrain. I have even seen plexi used with hot glue to create up-right webbing for spiders lairs to very cool effect. I may even end up doing some that way.

My kids like that guy. I think mostly because he always wears a super hero t-shirt or maybe it is that creepy wink at the beginning of every vid. No doubt he tears up that guitar though and he seems to truly love what he is doing. To contradict the Conan, that is what is most important in life. Love what you do. I need to post on this guy's channel and get him to metalfy the Red Dwarf theme song. That would be cool! And yes, Love what ya do and have fun! Simple as that!

Here are my additional thoughts:
1) Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Your players will forgive you if you fudge something and then come back later, before the next game, and say "Oh by the way, I did some checking and we did X wrong last week, it's supposed to be done like this...."
2) Have your players shoulder some of the burden. Have them keep track of initiative, an adventure journal and anything else you may need help with.
3) And last but not least: The Golden Rule, The Prime Directive, The Ultimate Truth, The Universal Wisdom: HAVE FUN!!!
Above all else #3 is the most important.

I like that you show some of the players. Interviews would be interesting - ask about the characters they play - motivations - the story /what is going on in game. As DM Scotty has said in the past most live play is like watching paint dry. I try to listen to live play vids, live play podcasts and battle reports (I do mini wargaming). I can watch / listen to most of them for about ten minutes. You and your group laugh - play and have FUN. I think this is why your videos capture my attention more than most. I actually enjoy listening to the gameplay... I glean so much great stuff from watching and listening to other DMs/GMs that I then can put into play myself in my games.

Great work - I like the choice to have the skeletons a light brown color. The wraiths are very cool as well. Thanks! The color on the Skelly's is Reapers Aged Bone. The wraiths where originally that clear blue color that I then painted over with Tamiya's Clear Smoke Grey. Edit: Was in the middle of posting when a thunderstorm rolled in and I had to hurry to turn off my comp.To continue..... I then hit them with Games Workshop Nuln Oil wash. I also used Tamiya's Clear Yellow and Clear Orange on the Burning Skellys. These are all minis from the Castle Ravenloft and/or Legend of Drizzt boxed games. Still have several more to paint up.
Also made a day trip up to Las Vegas, which is about an hour and a half away, and managed to go by one of the FLGS' there. Here's some pics of a few of the new additions to my growing mini collection...

Not sure that they come in every model, but their 'Bones' line of minis is pretty cheap. Sadly they don't, but..... they are getting set to release a boatload more in Bones, supposedly sometime in the next month or so. Some great pieces. Link to what's up and coming for he Bones line: linkAs far as price, Reaper, whether sold through them or through another dealer are pretty much the cheapest out there and great quality to boot. Try comparing their mini prices with Games Workshop .... Another company with some really good sculpts that aren't too expensive, just a tad more than reapers, is Otherworld miniatures. They have awesome sculpts and a growing line of minis. Darksword has some great sculpts as well. And if your looking for pre-painted ones check out Coolstuffinc or trollandtoad (or is it toadandtroll, I always forget) or ebay. If you go to ebay check out Hoard'o'bits' ebay store, he always has good stuff. And the last suggestion, if you have the funds available is to get your hands on the Legend of Drizzt, Wrath of Ashardalon and/or Castle Ravenloft board games. They each come with around 40 unpainted minis as well as the board game for about $40.00. That's about a buck a mini... hard to beat that. Plus they give you a good starting foundation for gaming minis. Anyhow, just my thoughts and a few suggestions for ya. Good Luck!
