Thanks! and again sorry for the blurry pics, phone camera is not the greatest. This was basically a test session for us to try and learn the rules in play. I am going to run the same adventure again with a couple of my other players and see if it goes smoother. None of us has played 4th edition before, so it was an interesting experience, but all seemed to like it and to start getting the hang of it by the end. I may end up changing up some of the encounters when I run it for the others. We start the actual campaign on October 30th, barring unforeseen circumstance, and we will be alternating it each week with our Pathfinder game. If we get pics from this weeks second session i'll post em, and then I'll start posting the rest of the campaign here after that.

The group follows the earth elemental through the tunnel and arrive in a cell in the basement of the temple of Lathander. The wizardess then sends the males forward into the shadows as she investigates the room. She finds a trap door in the ceiling and approaches the area underneath it... As she reaches the area underneath the trapdoor, bright light flashes from the pillars in the room and four radiant dwarven guards and a dwarven sunpriest appear in the room... The drow determine that the pillars are weakening them and decide to destroy or disable them... The party successfully clears the way for the rest of the raid force to sack the temple of Lathander and capture it's high priest, but the priestess of Lolth leading them has been slain? Was it fate? Was it treachery? Stay tuned for more Underdark Adventures!(My apologies for some of the pics being blurry) Hope you enjoyed it!

DM'd my first 4e session today. It was different but not too bad. We decided we'd try it out with our drow campaign. It's going to take some getting used to, but all in all it was fun. We played the Dawn of Night adventure from Dungeon: Issue 218, I also tried out the 4e Turn Tracker software and was impressed with it as well. It's gonna take some practice but i think i'm gonna be really happy with it. Without further ado, here are some pics of the session and a bit of a summary. In the adventure the PC's are sent as the vanguard of a raid force that is sent to open the way into the cellar below a temple of Lathander/Aumontaur (sp?). They start off by ascending into a cavern that used to be part of a drow settlement near the surface. The cavern is lit by dim, sickly green light emanating from crystals embedded into the walls, ceiling and floors. As the characters begin to explore the cavern they trigger a demonic wall trap, where they can see hundreds of drow withing, moving and reaching out from this fleshy wall that cut them off from the western half of the cavern....

I use the Americana DuraClean matte varnish that i find at both Wal-mart and JoAnn's in the same area as their acrylic craft paints. Only down side is, even though it is supposed to be a matte finish, it comes out pretty shiny still when dry. I am still looking for a good brush on dullcoat to try with it and if I do I'll let ya know.

It helps on tiles to start with a basecoat close to the same color you want the tiles to be. Saves on the texture paint, plus allows you to water down your acrylics that you are brushing a bit as well. If you are thinking of not spraying a base coat you will go through a ridiculous amount of brush on acrylic so be sure to use a spray basecoat..... Hope that helps...

Just received some of the Drow minis from Otherworld Miniatures. Have to say they are some of the cleanest, best sculpted minis I have come across to date. Can't wait to get them base coated and painted. Will post pics when I do. I will definitely be ordering more of their products in the future. I also picked up some of their Tick minis to convert into Cave Fisher Spawn. Hopefully my green-stuff-fu will be in top form when I sculpt their claws, probisci and legs. (Pics and link from their site below) linkI think the company is based out of England and have several distributors around the world. I ordered mine through FRP Games, but I have seen them on the Paizo site, and Wayland Games I believe. Definitely worth the investment. As I said, pics to come later when I get them painted up.... I also ordered several minis from the Masterworks Miniatures: Visions in Fantasy line (also through FRP Games) and I will share my thoughts on them when they arrive. If they are as good as they look in their pics I will be ecstatic. They have also made some minis based on several of the iconic artwork from Elmore, Parkinson, Easley and Caldwell, as well as characters from George R.R. Martin's books. Sarge, does the prep work for that the bulk of the work for that type of campaign or is the record keeping during game more work? I am prepping to start a second game with my PC's as drow and I am trying to lay down the groundwork to keep track of the types of things you mention in your post above; various faction reputations, individual worth and reputation, calendars, time keeping, etc. In general, a lot of things that I normally do not worry too much about during my other games, at least not on this kind of a scale. it is feeling very daunting at the moment, probably because in the midst of it I am trying to read and learn about a system I am only vaguely familiar with (4e) and have never personally played, get the organizing prepped, minis painted and tiles and scenery made. I am hoping that things will be much easier once I get the prep work done, and everything organized.

Have not yet had that pleasure m3talslime... but I did have the pleasure of watching/listening to DMScotty's newest vid showcasing the no measuring style. It reminded me of the way my group plays . Only thing I would have done different was the handling of initiative, and still left movement tied into the same action as combat, instead of different phases. The style you used was very "wargamey" in that one respect. Not that I am critiquing at all, it worked awesome. I cannot wait to see more. I learn so much watching other DM's and players in action...*two thumbs up!* My movement system was trying to model the fact that everyone would be moving at the same time then do actions instead of the standard "conga Line" turns where move+action happen. I just prefer to have my movement, or lack thereof, as part of the action. I visualize as it as the movement and action are occurring during the same 6 seconds of the round rather than as move, stop, attack. I view it as a fluid dynamic, where if movement is occurring it's part of the attack motions..i.e. footwork, positioning or whatnot. Like I said, I was not critiquing, as yours works just as well... they are just different styles. I also do individual initiatives for everyone as well. Each PC and NPC. rolls and takes its turn in order. I have found a great android program called Combat Assistant that I use for tracking initiative and npc hit points. It makes things so much easier. I wish they had a version for the PC, so I could use that instead of just my phone/ I have also started using Syrinscape as well, but I only have the freebie stuff so far. I will add the other sound sets in the near (hopefully) future. As I said, I very much enjoy watching and listening to the vids of your groups games.

That was a very impressive video DMScotty. I love and appreciate how you went into detail on your painting techniques, Hope that many aspiring painters can watch and see how easy it is to get really good results and not be intimidated.

I've only cut off the pre-molded bases off of some, so far... I am certainly going to try and do some customizing on some of the ones I have. As far as cutting the bases off goes, it has worked well, easy to cut, a bit harder to sand or file but it is possible. I prefer plastic and/or resin if I am doing customizing work, as they are by far the easiest. I'd rank "Bonesium" as they call it in the middle so far....though hat may change as I play around with it more...

Personally I'm having a bit of difficulty but I am willing to give it a chance. Pretty much the same with my group members that are gonna play it. We basically decided that we are gonna run through the module and then decide from there. I'll definitely share my thoughts and opinions on it. I expect we'll be modifying it a bit with house rules. I'm just hoping we enjoy it.

Thanks! Just had to make a decision on how often we'll be playing as one of my regs needs it to be every other week instead of weekly. So we all discussed and decided that every other week for our Pathfinder campaign is cool to accomodate him, but the rest of us also decided that we are gonna play a campaign during those nights he won't make it. ( So most of us will still be weekly). For those off week games we decided we are going to try out 4th ed and run a drow pc based Underdark campaign. So I have to get cracking on my Underdark tiles and scenery, as well as learn a new rule set. We are gonna run the "Council of Spiders" D&D Encounters module and see how we like 4e. If we don't, we'll rewrite the chars for 3.5/Pathfinder and keep going, if we do like it we keep going so it's a win-win! I'll decide whether to start a new thread when we start getting some pics of the new stuff ... Wish me luck!

Tonights Game began with the group facing off against some Gray Oozes, then some Giant Scorpions and then the ancient Water Trap (unfortunately my photog was slacking and only got a couple of pics) Here's the group exploring the hallway containing the water trap just after the Barbarian ripped the door with the spikes in it off its' hinges. They had figured out that the spikes had indicated some kind of trap and decided to rip the door down to avoid it. Here is a close up of the Hydra headed fountain that was part of the water trap. The mouth on the top hydra opens up and sends a powerful stream of water, not unlike a fire hose, shooting down the hallway....in theory driving them into the spikes on the door.... Here the party regrouped after fighting three Skeletal Warriors that were inside the room that is off the left pf the hallway. It's floors were covered with a black mold that could sicken the party members if they failed their saves. All in all a good night, but I wish we had taken more pics... My group decided this week that we would make this campaign an every other week game and decided to alternate it with a new "Underdark" drow based campaign... I better get crackin on my Underdark tiles and scenery.....

For tile painting I definitely use Apple Barrel or Plaid brand paints. When it comes to my minis I use Games Workshop or Reaper paints.

Very nicely done. This is why I love these forums... Not sure if it would have been in the wheelhouse of your price range but Reaper has a crawler type mini : link
