Ah AJ, you make i ttoo hard. When my players begin to fizzle out I just hit them with the baseball bat until they re-focus on the task at hand. <Just kidding>
On a more serious note, I have found over the years that if I make a specific time for a break and try to keep the single session to three hours or less I don't have as many problems. In the past I began to have breaks where the players and I can stand, walk around, talk about other things etc. That 10 minute or so break can often change the quality of the game quite a bit.
As for the original topic: I not only stilluse my old "grid tiles" but I even use the blank grid mat. I just no longer feel the need to draw within the lines. :-)

It looks as if they've conflated 'no grid' and 'no map'. To be blunt, having brught up going gridless to quite a few of the locals, it is interesting how many started out thinking I ment 'no map'. There is a small, but vocal subset of RPGers who don't use maps or miniatures. They think the game is best played without all of it. Now once I explained what we mean by "Go Gridless" many of the locals liked the idea. In my area we have a lot of "Wargamers" and they could see using a table without a grid and measuring with a ruler the moves etc. real easy. I guess, I am trying to say it does nto shock me that some would mix the two ideas without a true "Gridless Fan" there to help define the differences.

So Hirst Arts allows you to buy their molds then sell the pieces you cast with them? Pretty cool of them, seems like there would be some copyright issues. There are and you should get a license from them before you try and sell your creations that use their designs.

I just picked up these great figures from ebay to use in my dungeons. A person named keebleorc offers some great figures of slimes, oozes etc. This set is clear in various colors. They look better in person, believe me. If you want some unique minis for your dungeons then check out his listings.

Did you paint the bases before they went on or paint the bases with the minis on them already?

This Dragon cost me $14.99 I believe. And yes, they had several different ones. For those who would like to check out the Safari Ltd lines, they have more than just Dragons.

I went by the local Michael's Craft Store and walked out with a great Dragon for less than $15. She is 9” L x 6” W x 3” H (23cm x 15cm x 7.5cm for my metric friends. ) She is solid and the paint job is better than you would expect from a toy.

I keep looking at this one. Some nice looking ides here and the game play looks like it could be fun. But then I keep reminding myself these are unpainted minis and I have a Vampire box about to hit me and I hate painting. So many nice Kickstarters going as well. I bought into the DCM PPM Kickstarter and have a group pledge for the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter. Wish I was rich so I could do them all and hire a painter as well. ;D

I have heard the new paints from Citadel do not last liek the old ones do. They harden up is what I was told. Those who use them, have you seen a difference between the old and new formula?

Slight necro, appologies.. As a full contact "medieval" style fighter in RL, I can say that the gridded flanking is waaay to strictly interpreted. Anyone caught between F and E is in a world of hurt. Just the act of turning your head back and forth to watch both opponents(especially in a hood or helmet) leaves you vulnerable to attacks.... Your point is so true. When we play D&D or Pathfinder or any of the other RPGs we have to accept and understand it is an abstraction of combat and is made simple to allow us to "adventure". None of the games should be seen or expected to be a simulation of true combat.

When someone questions our beliefs and challenges us to open our minds to new ideas, we humans often feel threatened and scared. When someone posts comments like you are talking about, it just shows you took them outside their comfort zone. Smile and enjoy the power the poster gave you. :-)

I like the use of a table cover. This allows you to use it again and again. Well done.

One minor thought: What I find in many of the "watch us play" videos on YouTube that is missing is context. Often the class, stats, ideas, and in a few cases, even the layout is missing. Scotty's at least I could follow what is happenng. An interestng adjutment could be to have the character sheets available here to look at and allow an even greater level of context.
Just an idea.

Wonderful Subject and well done video. One minor nit pick: Th paizo Pathfinder Minis are not made by Wizards of the Coast. They are made by Wizkids. Wizkids has the licence to do the pre-painted minis for Pathfinder.

This is an interesting subject. How going gridless will change the feel of the game. I come from a board game/war game/RPG path. Board games had defines abstract "grids". Panzerblitz or Chess, it does not matter. The grid gave us a defined space. Then I went to tabletop war games. no defines grid on the table. I could move elements to the specific place I wanted them to be. Then I went to the RPG enviroment and it was even more free form. I could move my minis where I wanted them and define the overall group as I wanted. Then slowly the grids showed up. Mostly because people used the old maps that had grids and they wanted to be accurate on the table. by the time 3.5 came along the games had a game board feel. I was moving my minis like I move my chess pieces. To a specific location as defined by a grid. I know I am rambling on here.
Bottom line: I agree that going gridless will change how the game feels and in my opinion, it will be a change for the better.

I think this is a good idea. You could use an encounter and then tie it to a craft video about the tile(s) used. Just a thought.

Just a suggestion, when we post a source on this thread we should include a link. I have edited my two posts to include links.

Thanks for the kind words. I have my next batch ready to rebase. I have to admit it is fun creating my own D&D minis from other sources.
