Hi crafters
How do I, easiest and affordable, create ways to have anything look like it is above ground level? My players characters have spells and abilities to make thme levitate and fly. Usually we put a d6 die under the minis but I need a better sollution!

I would get two 1-inch wood discs, a 1 inch washer, and a small rod. Drill holes in the two discs, glue the rod into the two discs, and then glue the washer to the bottom of one of the discs for a bottom-weight.

There's also a company that makes that design in clear acrylic. I think it may be Litko, but I couldn't find it on their site just now.

cut strips out of clear soda bottles and plastic jars, glue together platforms and struts with a glue gun.

AJ, do you mean to make short towers to put the minis on or what?
I will try to do that, anyway.

I use an empty dice box also. Works great and you likely have a couple lying around.

Old dice boxes are great and you can hook them together for higher altitude flight.

I usually use those little white plastic tripod type things that come inside a pizza box. it protects the pizza from being squished. they work great for this application & are easily painted.

Oh, come on. Those are TABLES, not flying platforms. That's completely unrealistic.

works in a pinch. usually we use fish line and thumb tack them to ceiling and just let them dangle. (rolls eyes)

Now you're talking! You can even adjust for height that way!

As characters get higher level flight is inevitable. I finally had every player that was going to fly get a Tinkered Tactics Combat Tiers set. I also purchased a few for NPCs/Monsters. I haven't seen anything better for air combat. We used to do dice and and other things but when you get a tower of 6 or 7 dice under a miniature they are prone to topple. It took us a while to bite the bullet and purchase the sets but we have never looked back. Here is a review of a few different ways to do elevate miniatures. www.campaignmastery.com/blog/elevate-your-game-tracking-airborne-minis/

As characters get higher level flight is inevitable. I think it is based on the game/players. I played in one game where we all went 20+ levels and not one of us could fly unless the wizard case fly on us. In another game I played that also went past 20th almost all of us could fly using some magivc item we had. My character had a flying carpet. By the ay, as for cheap ideas, now only old dice boxes (still my favorite) but you can also use the lip of the clear boxes clix figures come in. Cheap and easy to find. Most clix collectors just toss them. If you are going to buy any of the new paizo Goblins for example, you will get one in each pack along with the figure.

Besides old dice boxes you can also use cylindrical toothpick cases they're about a $1 each & they sell them near the paper plates and napkins (you can use all the spare toothpicks for crafts too) & are approx. an inch in diameter perfect for most any PC mini, or get a case of plastic champagne glasses from the party section of a box store for $3-$5 (maybe you'll get lucky at a dollar store) most brands are two piece (if not snip off the top) use the bottom base & fluted neck then whip out the trusty old glue gun & glue on an old base, thick cardboard circle, scrap plastic, another bastardized plastic cup, etc. & ta-da instant floating base
