Here I will post some pictures, including tiles inspired by DMScotty, things I have picked up from this great community and a few things I can share. We are playing the Kingmaker AP currently so some of this may be SPOILERS. Some of my favorite monsters are kobolds. I like to play up the ancestral link between kobolds and dragons, creating several tribes of the critters based on dragon colors; red, blue, green, black and white. I give them minor immunities and enhancements based on the color. The Kingmaker AP catered to this nicely. Here are my Sootscale Kobolds and Tartuk the Sorcerer. Attachments:

I am running that AP for my group. (I converted it to 4E and have added quite a bit of my own material). That was a fun fight. My players rescued Mek-mek from the Mites and befriended the Sootscales after defeating Tartuk. I really like your color scheme. SPOILER ALERT.....My players totally screwed the pootch on the Staglord Fort and were almost killed in the battle. The Stag lord captured them and tortured them. He cut out the tongues of mages and broke their fingers. The Staglord then crucified them along the road leading to the fort. (the players essentially had one HP and no surges) They hung there all day as they watched the blackbirds hover overhead and drifted in and out of consciousness. Mek-mek had followed the PCs (unknown to them) and returned with the Sootscales. They helped the PCs down and were able to give them some healing magic. Almost at the same point Akiros shows up. After a bit of a standoff Akiros offers to help the players get in the fort. ....lesson, always good to make friends in a dangerous World.

Nice. I am interested in seeing how my group handles it. The group consists my wife (catfolk rogue), my two oldest daughters (gnome druid and human barbarian) and two of my friends (human witch and gnome alchemist). They have a tendency to shoot first and ask later, but during the initial bandit assault on the outpost, I lead them to believe that it was the guard detachment they were expecting that they had ambushed without a parlay attempt. Hopefully this will motivate them to role play a bit more and ask questions. My two friends and I are wargamers (Necromunda, Hordes, War Machine, etc) and sometimes they fall back into mode so I have to keep it fast paced. My daughters have never played and it sometimes difficult to think like their character and not look at it as a board game. Removing the grids has helped a lot. Thanks for that. You would think that us wargamers would have thought of that on our own. I have mixed this AP with some Horde's mythos. My behind the scene antagonist is based on the god-dragon, Everblight. Once the PCs have established themselves, they will have to defend their real estate from Everblight's minions and ultimately Everblight himself. Let's hope they can avoid killing or alienating everyone. They are going to need all the help they can muster.

Did the mages tongues grow back when they were healed? Awesome scenario. Reminds me of the ultra-deadly 1st ed. warhammer fantasy rpg where PCs could lose limbs pretty easily.

Thanks belatucadras, those pics are bringing back some early campaign memories. I really like the groups of 2D backdrop trees.

I love the yellow highlights on the dark tiles -- it makes the scene look like it's glowing.
Also, I am digging that huge screen TV in the background displaying what looks like a terrain map. Is that just coincidence? Or are you using some kind of setup to display maps from your computer to your TV for your players? If so, what software are you using?

Thanks. I am happy the glowing effect comes across. Torch 'minis' will go in those lit areas.
As for the TV, I use Hero Lab for tracking characters and combat. I used to use d20Pro, which is a virtual RPG table used mostly for running games online. I set up my laptop and my desktop (linked to the TV) so that I could play a virtual game with myself. I linked a player account to the TV for viewing by my players. I linked a DM account to the laptop then was able to play completely paperless from the comfort of the living room and still have everyone present.
Nice idea on paper (see what I did there?), but the elements I love about roleplaying were teched out.
I still use Hero Lab on my laptop, but only use the TV for map and picture display (PDF files), which I can control from the laptop through the desktop thanks to a home network. Also thanks to Scotty, we use homemade gridless terrain, and dice, and a table. Returning the correct feel to the game.

Cool! Thanks for the bon mot about playing "with everyone present." Quite amusing.
Our TV is to hell and gone away from where we play Pathfinder, but it would be oh so cool to be able to display maps and such on it. My laptop has a big screen, but nothing like our TV's.
I've been using Herolab for about 2 months now and my players love it. Truthfully, I do too, because it takes a bunch of the rules-overhead off my shoulders. (What happens to the fighter's power attack when she fails her FORT save against the Reefclaw poison? That's pretty straightforward but a definite PITA to figure out -- which is exactly why they made computers.)
And I agree: terrain and minis you can touch certainly do return the correct feel to the game.

I needed some druid types that did not look like a mage in a green robe or an archer (ranger mini). Found some rogues and assassins in a box and decided to repurpose them into druids. Here is the first one. s1298.photobucket.com/user/Belatucadras/library/Repurposed%20Assassin%20MiniThis one was easy. Just a color scheme and a slight mangling of the skull head cloak clasp into a yellow flower. A couple of pieces of twig and he has a staff. My youngest says it is just a stick and shows me a more traditional figure with a grand staff. That's a staff dad. My middle child says it looks like a Slitherin Quiditch player. Thanks for the thumbs up girls. Hehe

That is seriously awesome work on all accounts. I love how you use a table riser as well. I am trying to figure out how I want to do one as my game group continues to grow and we are running out of room for everything on the table itself.
