I read one online a few weeks back that I am going to use as some point. Players come into a room with a pillar in the center with a button on it. if they press the button, the doors shut and numbers start counting down from 10 around the pillar, if they hit the button again, the numbers restart at 10. If they let it get to 0, the doors open and nothing happens. I would have the door they need to exit shut when they come in and this is the only way to open the door. It should drive the rouge nuts. The person who posted it said they wasted an hour in the room before finally huddling in a corner waiting for something to happen. It's a nice way to slow a group down. Now, you can add some type of trap to it if you want. Or put more buttons on it and each button represents a different starting number. Or have it alert guards a few rooms ahead.

This sounds like the perfect "trap" for which to have a prop. Not that you could easily make something "medieval," but wiring up an arduino to a seven-segment display and a big red button would be a lot of fun. Or for those less technically-inclined, a tablet and a stopwatch app would work well, too.
Making the players focus on needing to hit the button every ten seconds might add a lot to a session.
(Or they might never come back)
