Movement sticksI'm going to try Hackmaster with my gaming group. Movement is a bit different in Hackmaster compared to D&D since all characters can move from 0.5-4 grid squares per game second depending on size and armor. My first thought was that the movement rules might be fiddly using gridless play. The movement rules also seems to severely handicap for instance dwarves in heavy armor and halflings in light armor, perhaps because rules were restriced by grid squares. Anyway, I came up with some house rules for gridless play with movement sticks and 4 color coded movement classes. Depending on movement class a player always uses the same colored movement sticks, and there is one stick for each movement type (walk, jog, run, sprint). Since I was not restriced by grid squares I could use more fine tuned movement differences between different races and armor types compared to original rules. Hopefully this will not overpower dwarves and small creatures.
