I have found my myself wanting a cauldron for a witch encounter, and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas for making one.

hirst arts makes a perfect cauldron if you like. the other option is find something small with an indent, size of a thimble or the like at your local craft store, and if your particularly savy you could always roll up a chunk of clay and shove the bottom of a pencil or pen into it then mold clay around the shape till it gets where you like.

depends on how big you want it. Are you talking about the size for a typical cauldron (Which is about the size of a human head, or perhaps about 4 inches wider. In actual miniature size, that would be negligible unless you made it disproportionate to the size of a mini), OR are you talking about "The Black Cauldron," Which was big enough to fit a human body into (Neat how that story is epic like that. Even more Epic that Gurgi sacrificed himself to save the world from the Horned King's plot...at least in the Disney Version. In the book I think he intended to sacrifice himself, but accident and luck made it not necessary....long time since I read that one...)?
If you want a Cauldron you can fit a mini into, then you are going to have to use clay. Every now and again you can get tea candle holders that have a vague cauldron-esque shape, but that would be like ultra large (The size of two Black Cauldron's...or more). I would simply get clay, craft it into a roughly cauldron-esque shape, depress your fingers into the center to get your interior, and play with it until you have something that satisfies. Then get some wire and use it for the handles. Then I would use some of that flexible sculpting paste DM Scotty uses and texture it a bit roughly after it dries to make it look like cast iron...paint a matte black, and maybe get a very dark gray to paint the texture of the kettle and make it have dimension.
so, just some thoughts.

I just made a brazier but was considering making it a cauldron... I used the wooden top from an empty Cholula hot sauce bottle and filled it with flexible modeling paste to form a fire. If I were going to do the cauldron I'd just have changed the texture and tried to made some bubbles on the surface. I think the cap's shape would be good for either. In case you aren't familiar with the bottle I'm talking about: cholula.com/products/original_hot_sauce.phpAttachments:

that's awesome. I was trying to think of something simple that can be easily gotten ahold of to suggest, but couldn't think of anything. You're right though, it does look good as the base shape for a cauldron. I would try to make a lip on the top and (of course) handles, but that doesn't have alot of requirements for adjusting the shape. Great idea!

Reaper has a pretty great witch figurine, and it comes with an awesome looking cauldron. $6 is a lot to pay for a cauldron, but if you buy it for the witch like I did, it's a nice bonus.
