Our group played their first gridless session last night. Just connected the last gridded tile they played to their first gridless tile. Explained how movement and spell effects played and off we went. My youngest nephew had some trepidation about the gridless system, but enjoyed the crafted tiles. Everyone else jumped right on board. Thank you for the great crafting ideas, the inspiration to develop some crafting ideas of my own and of course the gridless system.

I imagine that from the character perspective, it was alot like being Dorothy, living in black and white, and all of a sudden being in a full color film. The transition from Gridded lifestyles to Gridless Lifestyles....imagine the possibilities. What will they think of next, no world boundaries? Getting rid of the 4th wall? Insanity!
...But I imagine it was good for them anyways...

I was going to create a new topic but this is just fine! Yesterday night i ran my first D&D gridless encounter (I'm running a weird version of "Return to Elemental Evil"). It was a success! My players just could not stop to play (the went home at 3:00!!!). We had no problems converting the system and "stepping out" from the grid, maybe thanks to the fact that my players trust me. Movements, attacks of opportunity, flank attacks, spells... all was perfectly fluid. Thanks to DM Scotty and all the community! Here are a couple of pictures i made...

I'm so happy because it worked out perfectly! I always played with grids (i started D&D 3 years ago, directly as DM!) but i was feeling that something was wrong... The players was more focused on squares and grids rather then on the game itself!
