Dude, the modularity of the tiles is GREAT!! You only need to make a few that way, then you have the whole jungle trail on the island.
I wouldn't worry about the corrugation, I think the tiles look great to represent jungle.

usually one side of the cardboard will show up corrugation more than the other side, and it's not often hard to identify which side will do that. MOST of the time if you have the dungeon/ruins texture paint it won't show up at all through the second layer of the paint, even if you did paint on the side where the corrugation shows.
One way to make the corrugation less apparent is to give the tile more random texture effect through standard painting. Such as stipling on the effect of foliage. I actually made stack-able terrain height tiles...that is, I made stuff I could make into a hill pretty easily. Started off with a base of black (both sides), a base of rust texture (give it a dirt feel, and it was a good start for color), then stipled on the darker brown, and the two shades of green I wanted to use to represent grass. The effect stands out more than the corrugation, regardless of which side the tile is flipped to.
So, just some ideas to help with the corrugation showing.
