There will ALWAYS be people who dislike, no matter what you do, I'm sure you'll survive.

I know of one guy who gets off by just going to random vids and clicking dislike.
Blow them off.

Weigh it out against how many likes you get. Focus on the positive, it's always the best way to go.

Those dislikers are just jealous grid-lovin fools.

People dislike videos just because of the exact reaction you posted this thread about.
They think you'll take it personally and dwell over it...

Do you think it's possible that a "dislike" is a type of constructive criticism? If a dislike is seen strictly as a personal failure, then it may be a good idea to disable the like/dislike buttons. What I've notice is that some people dislike things because they have some gripe they need to share. Some are just rude and stupid and press "dislike" because they can. A dislike may be just be because the person doesn't like to hear or see whatever the subject is. Maybe they dislike the video because you failed in some way to impart information they wanted, but didn't find. Hmmm...there may be way more reasons than I have written.
If you make videos you might have to get used to the occasional "dislike." Better yet--just do the best YOU can, with what YOU have to work with. Like Momma told me..."there's a whole buncha people out there that just aren't going to like you, so move along and do something else."

I usually dislike a video when it sucks. Something that makes me say, "Why would anyone upload this for any reason beyond trying to get ad revenue?"
That's about it, though.

Scottie, I recently found your Youtube site by accident. I have already watched most of your videos and will certainly watch the rest when time permits. One of my Castle Ravenloft/WoA/Drizzt players has already made several of your traps to compliment our game. I rarely post on forums but I had to say you are putting out quality material and great information. Keep up the good work and stay positive. I recall reading a post on this thread where someone said that your videos have introduced them to a new hobby. There aren't many compliments better than that. You had a positive effect on at least one person's life. As for myself I have been playing D&D for decades with paper and pencil. I'm already using your material for my D&D boardgames and planning to start DMing again and using minis and your techniques. Again, well done Scottie. Thanks for the great work.

clanoneillguy, so glad I inspired you. That is all I ever want from these vids. You notice I don't ruin them with adds over them.

Last night we ended a two month long module where the players fought an epic battle with a skeletal T rex. I recently have adopted the DM Scotty method of gridless play and tile creation and the players love it. I built the cave complex (posted elsewhere) and was inspired to find a model of the monster based on DM Scotty's recommendation of haunting Dollar Stores. I found a perfect puzzle/skeleton model of a T rex in perfect scale (like this but in plastic) and painted it up. I think overall play was greatly improved by the players having the freedom to just move their character where they wanted within the distance of the measuring stick. Also with the scene in miniature they used their surroundings tactically and played their characters more dynamically. For example once the T rex grappled a player and held her in its jaws aloft, the rogue looked at the skeletal model and declared he wanted to run up the spine to the head to help her break the grapple hold it had on her. As the rogue was up on the top of the skeleton the rest of the team bludgeoned and struck the skeleton and as the skeleton collapsed the rogue, using his super high acrobat skills, rode the collapsing skeleton back down to the ground like a surfer. It was an awesome team moment that became more memorable with the visual aids. I would never have built them if it was not for your inspiring work DM Scotty. Thanks again and please keep the videos coming! Attachments:

Having a blast with friends is what the craft is all about and it looks like you have hit the nail on the head. I have had similar experiences where my players get inspired tactically and have done some really cool stuff. I am so glad your players have embraced the gridless play argiope.

At least with negative comments you can sometimes draw useful criticisms from them.

At least with negative comments you can sometimes draw useful criticisms from them. If they are honest criticism and not asshat comments, I agree. But I have seen some comments that are clear troll comments or stupid "this vid suks" kind of stuff. Those kinds of comments are useless and should be ignored.

If you get more likes than dislikes you're doing a damn good fine job.
