I'm experimenting at making my own mini bases. About how thick are most mini bases?

depends on the type of game. If i's something like warhammer, they're prity heafty, something like a 1/8th of a inch thick sometimes. if you're talking d&d compatible miniatures, think smaller than 1/16th of an inch. Again it depends on the type of mini and what you want to put on it

Does anyone know of someone who makes bases that would be the same size as those used on the D&D painted minis?

Best place for the price I have found so far is here on Ebay... www.ebay.com/itm/120983787341?ssPageName=STRK It does take a while for them to come in as they are shipped from Hong Kong but that makes them $0.14 each. I have bought from them a few time with no probles at all.

they are but i do not see why you can't get some calipers and measure one of your own minis. American surplus has a set of calipers for $10 or so.

But I thought there might be someone here how could answer the question. Sorry for cluttering up the forum in such a way.

That is what the forums are for asking questions and talking about things. As far as the base yes the Warhammer one are a little thinker but for me as far as table top game play for minis they work just fine. At that low of a price I can deal with the little differance in hight. I use them alot to rebase mageknight minis.

Hobby lobby wooden disks work just as well as the plastic ones.

I like to use the Galeforce 9 ( [GFB127] 25mm Slotted Round Bases (25), 25 Magnetic Bases), They are thinner than Gamesworkshop bases, come in all sizes and are magnetic so you can stick stuff to them like Alea tools.
