I glued card stock over the cardboard then cut it into tiles with an X-acto. It was pretty time consuming, but hid the fact that the sliding piece of cardboard I had cutout for the the pit was a separate piece. I used a strip of cardstock on the underside of the tile so so that the cardboard had something to hold it in place, and slide effectively. The only other thing that remained was to make a pull tab on the backside for the DM to reveal and pull out when the trap was triggered. I hid this with a thin strip on the underside of the tile that the tab folded back into.

You gotta love how the players will use pitons and rope in every future room with this floor pattern. Nicely done.
