I am a bit crazy when it comes to makeing dungeons.... I make them HUGE, plus I make to many, in my style of play were I DM I have so many side quests that the PCs can do. One example is in a tavern IF they talked to this goul in the corner then try would go on a huge quest recomended by him, I built a huge dungeon using tons of tiles and fun terrain and built it all up and they did not talk to the goul. The dungeon TO THIS DAY still has not been used witch is kind of sad, at ways... I have been making a new dungeon for my PCs and the way we work is at the first Tuesday of a month is like a goof off day. We grab random old tiles and build a dungeon ( not connected to the story at all) it's Realy fun. The whole time is used for bantering , some one brought up there should be multi level dungeons that the PCs had to split up and concur and regroup, the way they described it It sounded dumb but does any one have an idea how I could make it ? Because with some thought I thought it would be fun. ( sorry for all the mispelled and ranting ) - Silvia hurashu

Couple of suggestions?
One is make it a teleportation maze, that way they can all 'port off to different sections and meet back at the teleportation hub, you would not have to worry about a huge labrynth of interconnected tiles, just plop a teleportation crystal or pool down on the tile and you are done.
Second idea is the generic, universal dungeon tile, it is of a set size and has a couple of potential entry corridors at the same points on each side, though they are there mainly to line up the tiles and depending on what you want on the inside of the tile, you may just represent them as caved in corridors or whatever. I had a post about this on the forum a while ago and is part of my ongoing 2.5D projects to get a full set of 40+ tiles made.
Cutting a big hunk of polystyrene into layers and carving dungeon rooms out of that is fun and relatively easy (once you get used to it), plus you can stack them back together, cover over unexplored levels and use a cloth to conceal bits they have not explored yet on each level. I'm using something a bit like this in my current campaign, because I mix 3D and 2.4D terrain as required and depending on what things I have available to recycle into gaming stuff. The other advantage here is you can have players dig into walls, break down doors literally.. the entire thing is purpose made, and as its a one shot.. let them break stuff!

It sounds like your best bet is to create some basic reusable tiles of a modular variety, that can be used in various configurations to create many dungeons. Make some for outdoor encounter tiles too. For specfic encounters, craft specific features to place on the modular tiles, rather than entire tiles that you may may never use. Save tbe special tiles for those boss encounters that the party WILL FACE.
