Greetings! My name is Dwight and I'm new to the forums, but not new to gaming or crafting terrain. As I was watching the tutporial about 2D trees It ocurred to me that a 3D tree would be easy to make from the basic shapes. First you would need to make several layers of the foliage of the tree as demonstrated, but do not include the central trunk instead a "+" shape is cut into the center of each level. The trunk of the tree is made by cutting two rough trunk shapes (basicly long triangles with flat tops) which are slotted together. At every 2" a little triangular edge juets from the trunk sides. The foliage then slides down over the top and will rest on these ledges, creating platforms that figures can stand on!

Cool idea.
I've made some similar trees as you describe, but mine are a lot simpler. I just used DM Scotty's toilet paper tube covered in toilet paper and glue technique for the trunk, made a foliage platform for figs to stand on the top, then attached some foliage around the edges. I'm actually working on a few smaller ones today. There are pics in my Miscellany thread in the community picture gallery if you want to check them out.
Also, there's a video in the community video gallery of an incredible large tree with platforms on every branch. It looks way better than mine and is very playable for certain encounters. I'll try to find it and link it here.
Anyway, good idea. Please be sure to post pics if you end up making any of these.
