These are what I buy currently to base my medium (1" square) sized minis. They come in a pack of 52 wooden circles for $1.99 at Hobby Lobby. I paid $1.27 for this pack today with a 40% off coupon. The circles are composed of 3 layers of wood. A thick center layer sandwiched between 2 thin outer layers. The centers grain runs perpendicular to the outer layers similar to plywood so it makes an extremely strong base. The bottom side also has an adhesive sticker on it I've found useful for holding the base in place while painting. Here's a pic of a base I pryed apart to show the makeup: Older packages of these were exactly 1 inch in size and had a sticker of adhesive that covered the entire base. They appear to have recently switched to using a 1 1/8th of an inch base and less adhesive. So slightly bigger but still great for the price. They are exactly the same thickness as the official D&D miniatures 1/8th of an inch thick.

Cool! I just bought some of the assorted size circular Woodsies to use as bases for some of the dollar store critters I picked up, but they are a tad pricey.... Gonna have to check these out. On the plus side I did manage to find some of the acrylic crystals that DMScotty used in his vid. Color me stoked!

Good find. I am in the market for cheap bases and these are much less expensive than the last batch I purchased.

You just saved me some money, thanks! I still need a lot more bases, and I've been using the wood pieces that are $2 for 12. Great find!

I found eureka 1 inch plastic learning tiles like these... You can get about 175 pieces for 9 usd. they have a raised edge which is great for holding in glue and flock.

Great find! I think there's much to be found in the direction of used board games in general...
If you want large, round and magnetic bases, go for poker chips with a metal core.

Chase, thanks for sharing your find. A few years ago, I would have been all over this, like 'stink on orc's feet,' but my basing approach has changed direction. Still, I will share it with members of my local gaming group, as it may prove useful to them. They're great, for what they are, and very affordable! Cheers! PS: Do you post on TheMiniaturesPage.com? Under "General Boards," there is a category, "Basing," which would be a great place to share this information. Your idea is incredibly useful. Thanks, again!

Indigo,do you remember what section you found the round bases in? I can't seem to find them. It varies from store to store. Some stock them in the woodsies section, some in the kids craft section (near pipe cleaners and foam shapes), and some in the wood projects section. Here's the UPC number: 754246207432, you should be able to contact your local stores and have them look it up for you see if they carry it. If they need the name its: Lara's Craft Alphabet Circle Stickers.

Hello all. My first post here. I thought I'd share my source for bases, Casey's Wood Products. www.caseyswood.com/shoppingcart/zen-cart/You've got a lot of choices for bases on the site, and if you order around a 100 they work out to about a nickel each. Not quite as cheap as what Indigo scored, and you have to pay for shipping, but then again you're not paying for gas either. Plus they've got a whole host of other odd shapes available.

Olddreamer -- that is a Squad Leader Officer chit! I have not seen one of those for decades... Played it in the mid-70's. That brings back some memories. Anyway, this forum is shutting down, being replaced by this one: dmscraft.proboards.com. Make sure you join up on the new board, and, Welcome! Thanks for sharing the link, as well. Cheers!

Thanks for the shout out! I started out with Squad Leader as my entrance to wargaming, which lead to D&D, which lead to all sorts of mischief. Took a few years (decades) off and now that I've got time and kids and back into the groove. Figured making a SL icon would be a suitable way of acknowledging my roots.
