I made this for games of Red Sand, Blue Sky which uses an arena divided up into 13 ares for movement (9 centre areas and 4 'wall' areas). Here's a printed one you can buy to show the recommended layout. I positively hate arenas with walls that block your view and that have to be reached over so I decided early on not to have them but still wanted an arena feel and a 3D look rather than a map/mat/floorplan. This is what I came up with: There is a full step-by-step guide to building it here: www.matakishi.com/gladiatorialarena.htmBut, if you're a 'cardboard and glue' kind of person like DM Scotty you could manage with a cardboard circle and a 2D backdrop either painted or with pictures of buildings printed and stuck on. You probably wouldn't want the grid either I have a few items like pillars for chaining victims to and floor pits to make to add interest and I may well use this for a fantasy pit fight game or similar. Anyhow, making one of these the DM's Craft way should be fast and simple and yet have many gaming uses, probably a good time investment.

I dislike walls for exactly the same reason. They just make play harder than it needs to be. It is difficult to play when walls are blocking your view and it is almost impossible to sit down when playing with walls.

One of the reasons I never invested in the Master Maze dungeon line. Not to mention the price. Dark Art has made a resin tile set but, it is limited in casting number. I never liked that production method. It looks good and you get a lot for the price+S&H from the UK.
