I used to roleplay with miniatures, back in the late 70's through to the late 90s but then I changed to wargaming and skirmish gaming with figures and our RPG games are pure pen and paper now. However, just because I wargame doesn't mean I can't run encounter based games and this time last year I put on a Conan game at BLAM (the British Lead Adventure Meeting) which consisted of a series of linked encounters starting with Conan in jail in need of rescue by his companions and culminated in a climatic battle with Thoth Amon and his minions on top of the Dark Citadel itself. I used my own CROM! rules for the game and all the scenery and figures were made or painted by me (with the exception of some of the jungle which was made by a friend). The game ran much like an RPG, each player had a single character but the bad guys were also controlled by players with my umpiring role taken up with story events and keeping things moving. Here are some shots of the games. Full rules, scenarios and lots of other pertinent things are here if you'd like a bit more info. www.matakishi.com/conanhub.htmThe village set up with the prison visible at the far end (with its tower) The entrance to an Atlantean tomb The Dark Citadel itself. Thoth Amon's sacrificial ritual is under way. Old school AD&D players will recognise the statue.
