This is an unpainted set of bookcases I made for a library - made from card-stock, hot glue, and Crayola's air-dry clay. I crammed as much of the clay as I could on to each shelf, then used a couple different clay craft tools (a toothpick would probably suffice) to remove some, giving the books definition.

Very nice bookshelves! I've been experimenting with various air dry clays (Paper Clay, Das, etc.). How does the Crayola clay work for you?
For a privy, I'd line a small room with benches, with circular holes cut out. That's about as fancy as they got back then...

Looks great, for the books you could also use thin cardboard and cover the edge with thin cardstock or paper.

That is the approach I take when drawing them out on the battle mat, I had also figured as much about crafting their 3d counterpart. I was going to take a thinner piece, most likely card stock, and either cut or paint a black hole. I figure cutting it and painting the bottom black would give some depth.

That bookshelf is phenomenal DMG! Can't wait to see the videos.
It wasn't until watching your vids that I went out and purchased a thousand craft sticks for 5-6 bucks at Wal Mart. Now I am backtracking to a lot of the little set pieces I have created, and imagining how I can use the wood to make it better. Super cheap and effective!
