Semi-SPOILER ALERT Hi everyone! Here's the second of my two works in progress. I'll post updates as I have them. This is a simple tile, but after the paint and varnish failures I had with area C4, I thought I'd try using silicone to glisten up the water sections of the tile. It worked in the areas that had only a thin coat of silicone, but I didn't realize how quickly that stuff would set up in the 0% humidity air of Colorado, and it wound up pretty gloppy. It gave a nice wave effect, which I'm not sure if visible in this picture, but that isn't exactly what I wanted since it's supposed to be a bog. Oh well. I like the silicone better than the varnish and I think I'll try it again. Also, I had a lot of fun with this paint job. The idea was to have hummocks of land that projected above the bog, and narrow strips of semi-submerged land that connected them. I pulled it off to my satisfaction. What's left on this tile is a tree and some tenting. More to follow. WIP progress hummocks in a bog:

Skull and Shackles SPOILER ALERT for the text, but not for the pictures. (Tile is very different than presented in the module.)Hi everyone, Here's the finished tile for the "Whore's Boudoir." DMScotty's "gnarled dead tree" video provided the technique for the trees, but I painted them as living. I didn't add foliage to the branches because I want to see how these work on the tabletop. I'm worried they might get a bit cluttery if I go to adding too many leaves. DMScotty, the technique in your video worked perfectly: thanks! One tree... …and the rest. Trees mounted on the tile itself. Close up of one of the bridges. I made two bamboo bridges out of …um… bamboo skewers and painted them to look old and covered with jungle-crud. The assembled tile. The module calls for a tent surrounding a pile of rotting pillows. I used cheap muslin for the tent. When the PCs find it, they'll quickly realize that the tent is made of ship's sails. Left-side view. I skanked the sails up so it would look like they'd been there awhile and had gotten pretty stained. The PCs will discover that the sails, though muddy, are not damaged. Right-side view. In the module, the PCs are blown to the island by a storm. In my game, their sails are going to be all but destroyed. The "tent" in the Whore's Boudoir is actually magically treated sails salvaged from the Infernus, and constitute about 1/2 of what they need to repair their own sails. (The other half of the sails are on the Infernus.) Groo crossing the longer bamboo bridge. Zooming in on Groo: And a close up of Groo on the bridge. I really like how far above the water he is. Well beyond the monsters the module already has planned for the PCs, I can envision all kinds of nastiness I can perpetrate while they try to get their sails down…
