Inspired by the Alien poster from back in the day I created this Monster Egg hatching. The local $2 Store had a bag of polystyrene eggs for a buck. I ripped out part of it and used hot glue for the ooze. Based it with tile matching cardboard (using my tile painting technique seen in my videos). I painted it and went over the green slime with water based high gloss varnish (like DMScotty uses for water).

When I placed 8 of these on one of my large room tiles the first reaction was... Nah, we're staying out of here. Nothing good could come of this...

I had cocoons that my PCs found. Some had treasure in them and some had bedazzled and drugged monsters that attacked or scurried off when the cocoon was opened.

I actually use set pieces like this as ways of changing the direction of play. These were used to cause fear and to make the characters cautious and stear them away from the encounters beyond (more challenging). I did not actually fill them with monsters. There was no need, but a listen check yielded a far off terrible screeching noise. No one wants to meet mom when those things are in the room. Next time may be different though... may be...

Man, that thing looks nasty. Even if I were the Dread Pirate Roberts and I saw Buttercup's long blonde hair flowing over the lip of one of those, I STILL wouldn't go near it.
