How would one go a bought making a memorable Monster/Terrain piece for an epic encounter? Do any of you have any suggestions? Think Giant monster like from the old SNES or PSO RPG end Bosses ,Lavos, Jenova, Myora, or the like... Just want an epic WHOA!!! from the group. Although I might try looking for a lot of Tyrants bits if I can find them...

Depends how big you want it. Don't forget kids toys can make great gigantic bosses. Just spray them flat black., glue on a few bits with "goop" if needed and repaint them anyway you want with craft paints.

Got inspired by a monster from a game and decided to tweak it a little: Its still in its infancy as you can see, planning on adding spikes, hooks, a furnace on the back and paint, of course. Its basically a possessed golem/warmachine.

Well my idea is for a tile almost as big as your dwarven throne room tile... Half of it covered with the "Big" Boss... Something Cathulian? or Far Realms like tentacles, eyes, pseudopods, slimy minion bits(antibodies). Got any suggestions on a Greenish-Violet color pallet?

The "Golemlord" will be surrounded by his skeleton helpers as well, making the partys life a bit harder. My favorite "boss" so far was the Ettinchieftain from the Kingmaker campaign, DM Scotty knows him. I thought the boss was dead boring as it was planned in the book, so I changed him a bit. Basically he got into a big fight, and got his "headbrother" chopped off. He went crazy when he woke up and made his shamans "resurrect" the head back to life - what they did was animate it, but it didnt really change his personality that much anyway, so the chieftain was happy again. He put his headbrother on a stick and used him as a weapon against the players. They really enjoyed hearing my description of the slobbering and gibbering mace as he beat them silly with it.

Here is what I have came up with in the last 24+ hrs. It is kind of a type of "Pilot" from "Farscape", it is one of the big bads. Think of it as a Far Realms/Cthulian Pilot of an Star Spawn Living SpellJammer??? Keep in mind this is still a work in progress. DM Scotty trying to use a lot of your techniques... Whoa Almost couldn't figure out how to get the photo on the post still got a lot of clay and sculpting still to do...

I'm not done with the musculature on the arms. And I am in need of figuring out the rest of the design, not to mention weather this monster needs to be a Solo or an Elite? I'm open to any suggestions or any criticism before I proceed any further in this endeavor...

Id say an Elite, always good to use a bunch of smaller monsters along, as fodder for the spells of the wizard, or obstruction. A single big monster just tends to become the target of the most powerful attacks the players can muster, and I believe its better to give them options instead.
Oh, and sorry for derailing the thread a bit, I just figured out the Golem I was planning on using - the players are facing a powerful Duergar, worshipping a dark and evil god who teaches that life is struggle and toil. So he decides that his essence should be put inside a forge, to better serve his fellow duergar after his death. The priests decided to improve on his wish. So now he roams the subterranean halls as a warmachine, powered by the forge.

Ive made several monsters now using mostly Scotty's methods. First I made a pudding using a cardboard base and wire to fill it out then filled it in (allowing the glue to drip) with hot glue spray painting it black then modgepodged it to make it oily in appearance. Then ive made two beholders now using styrofoam balls (one for each) wire for the arms. The first I used caulk but wasnt happy with the results. The second I used the flexible paste and then used multiple applications to fill things out and I think it turned out great. Im without internet on my pc or id post pics.... I would actually LOVE to see scotty make some videos making various monsters. And one of the most valuable things ive found in crafting for my games in the last couple months is that wire....so useful.

One of my DM buddies made a giant purple worm our of foam pipe insulation and wire with toothpicks for teeth. It was pretty awesome, with rocks at the base to make it look like it had erupted from the ground. It easily took up a 3x3 square and was probably 8 inches tall

Update: My lovely little girl found and decided to playtest the monster I was working on and it didn't survive the encounter, she must have been 10 lvs higher than that monster going to have to start over, going to try to salvage what I can out of the materials. Will repost with what I have came up with later...
