*WARNING* Gratuitous and heavy name dropping is included in this post. You have been warned. So....As a test inspired by a few comments on an unrelated thread, and after having watched Wil Wheaton's character get dipped into an acid pit for the billionth time (who doesn't enjoy a good acid bath?), I set up a small scale acid trap of my own. The basic design is 2.5D, ala Scotty, and filling the trap came from argiope's thread on modular pools. AJ and argiope had briefly discussed epoxy vs hot glue, and a shout out to mac for suggesting tin foil on the bottom for a more reflective look. After assembling and painting the base, I lined the bottom using a square of foil, whipped up a batch of 5 Minute Epoxy, and tinted it with Neon Green food coloring. The over all look isn't just too bad: I mixed the epoxy to intentionally leave bubbles in it. The color didn't come out quite as Green I was hoping, but I know better for next time, and the tinted epoxy kills just enough of the reflective surface of the foil so that it shines, but isn't obnoxious, and you can see the texture I put in the foil. At any rate, here's the finished result: Attachments:

That looks pretty awesome! I wonder what could be done to add more bubbles. . .

I missed the bubble vid somehow! But I'm thinking tiny translucent beads might work.

Duh! The obvious answer: Beads. And best yet, my wife just made a trip to the craft store as a pre-father's day gift. Guess what was included in the purchase? I missed the bubble video too.....time to cue up the videos again!

I think that looks exceedingly scorchy! Hmmm, beads, bubble wrap, very good ideas.. and might I suggest that a layered effect with graduated tints of colour might add some additional trait to the over all effect (not sure what sort of trait, but perhaps some illusion of more depth?).
The evolution of the perfect acid pool.. Wheaton, somewhere out there, is likely breaking into a cold sweat..

Hot glue and bubble wrap are pretty cool thoughts and I had almost gone with hot glue. However, since the epoxy generates so much heat while it cures, I was more concerned that it wouldn't hold up during the cure process. Either way, I'm gonna do a couple more, so I can tweak my coloring, and go with a couple variants for larger bubbles. Thanks for the great feedback!
