Yeah, diseased and covered with boils is a pretty specific fetish.

The sucker covered tentacle tongue also qualifies.

From what anime has taught me about Japan, I get the impression that about half of their population would be into that.

Neck and neck between unwholesome blue and classic rusty red. *eats popcorn* Exciting!

Me to, I just asked a good friend if she feels like painting a miniature, she said 'Sure" so I handed this over to her (and some paint and brushes).
Time to get started on the next sculpt!

Update.. I'll be doing the painting myself (my friend is way to busy with two kids to wrangle and programming projects on the go) and when it is finished, it is being sent to DM Johnny, who will set up some sort of competition/give-away, with the Beholder being the prize! If I were to do the same for this forum, what sort of creature would you like me to make for a prize? I am leaning toward either a Roper or a Chaos Beast, but I'm open to suggestions. I do love a challenge.

How about a dragon? After all, D&D is Dungeons and Dragons

I could always do both.. you could run a series of competitions DMS. Theme crafting challenges or some such?
Just put the white base coat on the Beholder.. he looks a bit like an Eye of Frost at the moment.

The "boogery" / sinus-infection-snot-tone of that unpainted greenstuff makes me think you should try to do a first edition, Monster Manual Troll. They were all lumpy and boil-covered and just nasty. Perfect for that material. And, they were long and lanky, too, which fits with your wire-frame armature technique.
Otherwise, I'm late to the party, but I really enjoyed gazing at your beholder. The eyes looked great -- luminous, as if they were just waiting to spray some kind of magical death out on the party. The way you made it float was totally cool. And the suckers on the tongue added the "-tastic" to your model's "creeptastic" factor.
Can't wait to see it painted.

Update Time!Alrighty, the painting is basically done, now I am sculpting the fungus and rock bits for the base of the miniature, after I have painted, attached and highlighted those bits, the Beholder will be ready to send half way around the world. I am not, I should add, any sort of a professional miniatures painter, so I have been watching a lot of 'how to' videos on Youtube. The blue and metal colour scheme has turned out quite well though, its a very striking contrast and certainly looks like nothing from the natural world. Good choice folks! Also, good idea for the Troll miniature, you are quite right, the material and technique would be a natural choice for that critter, so I am adding it to my list.

Oh before you send it off can you take a picture of it beside a normal human miniature so we can see the full scale of it.

No problem, I will set up a little dungeon scene for it when its complete, including adventurers, plus I am going to put together a montage video of all of this on Youtube once its all done.

That looks terrific! Please tell me you're going to figure out a way to make this monster become a recurring nemesis, only to be slain after several near-deadly but ultimately "fought to a draw" encounters. It would be a shame to treat all that work like wrapping paper at Christmas: one brief flurry of engagement and then it's gone and forgotten. Let that sucker escape and come back a couple of times!

Ah yes, well, the truth is, this miniature is never going to see use by me.. not only are my players all at level 1 at the moment, but it is also getting sent over to DM Johnny in the states as soon as its done.. if he runs a competition with this as the prize, you could very well end up owning it yourself. Here is the components being made for the base art, fungus and rocks, with a snail. And this is my actual little work space on my desk.. As you can see, I am painting the bits during assembly, as when they are on the base itself, they will be very hard to get at with a paint brush.

The beholder is complete! Finally got all the base features assembled and glued into position, then took a few snaps for you guys. Thanks for all the interest and input, and I hope one of you gets to own it, when it gets awarded as a prize online. After the weekend I will be putting together a Youtube montage video showing the whole process, step by step, hopefully ending with a 360 degree view and a dungeon scene. Here we have the Beholder, along with a player character miniature for scale, and the giant mushroom miniature I used to model the fungus on the beholder's base. Here is a closer view of the fungus, rock and snail features on the base of the miniature. All in all, quite happy with how it all turned out. I'm ready to tackle the next project!
