So these are some really bad pictures of some wall sections I'm working on. There are 2 long tiles, 2 short tiles, and 2 long tiles with cutouts on the interior upper walls for stairs. I plan to make 4 towers, a gatehouse, and a keep, as well as several angled sections so that I can have bends in a given wall as needed. These could be played on a vinyl grid mat or a colored terrain cloth. What I am posting is a question. What should I do with these basic shapes? I'm interested in representing anti-siege weapons, like ballista, catapults, boiling oil channels, etc., but I would like to do them in a modular way so that EVERY wall doesn't need to have them. This is the orcish wall style. Eventually I will have similar examples of a freemans wall and an elven wall.

I would make them on separate bases so you could just place them where you want for the particular setup.

Yes, but HOW? I'm thinking cut up straws for boiling oil channels? I don't know! I have a couple arbalesters, but they would look lonely on their own

I agree with dm1scotty on the basing idea. You already have a "channel" between the outer and inner top of the wall sections. Is this distance the same for all of the wall sections?
From there it depends on if you are going to build up in a "Top down view" or a full 3D model. If you are going to do the top down view take a look on line for some gaming tokens. There may be some with siege engines on them already. BOOM! DONE!
If you do the full 3D model, K.I.S.S. is the way to go. Do not go overboard. Look for the basic shapes in the drawings of the engine you want to build and represent that. Keeping the idea of structural integrity in mind, paint only the details you need to see. Holes through the structures, "negative space", should be painted black.

Are you putting towers in the corners, or do you have some corner tiles made?

I am.. been kind of stagnant recently as my social obligations have ramped up, but yes I do have some corner towers made since I took those pictures.. none of it is painted yet.

I understand about other obligations. Though at this point TFM's Kickstarter is funded so that is some weight off and my freelancer work is at the editor. All that is left is for me to put notice in at my current job and go to work at TFM full time.

If you have a ledge where you can place minis at the top of the wall, just have some pieces of gravel glued together that you can use to show stones that can be dropped on the attackers. Also, Hoardings ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoarding_(castles) ) were used during times of siege, so your defenders can have more places to throw rocks and pour pitch down. Hope this helps you

Hey looks good not a bad start but remember this is 2D.5. So I would suggest with your walls since you will most likley only use them for walls and not repurpose them for other things like alot of the dungeon tiles are great for. I would ad some height to the tooth patterns on the outside edges of the walls so it give the feel of a real wall. That way your mini's can actually use them to hide behind and gives much more detail to the walls. and makes placing your balista pieces more realistic.
