I went by the local Michael's Craft Store and walked out with a great Dragon for less than $15. She is 9” L x 6” W x 3” H (23cm x 15cm x 7.5cm for my metric friends. ) She is solid and the paint job is better than you would expect from a toy.

Especially the bard, when he calls her "Four-Eyes."

When you use their ubiquitous 40% off coupons it makes the deal even sweeter. I got a hydra for $12 instead of $20!

Michael's has several dragons by Safari Ltd in the $20.00 price range. I want to say that I've seen at least eight different dragons. They all look amazing.

This Dragon cost me $14.99 I believe. And yes, they had several different ones. For those who would like to check out the Safari Ltd lines, they have more than just Dragons.

Michael's is also a good place to find more mundane miniatures. I picked up several hoofed herd types (sheep, cows, pigs, elk, stag, deer, etc). I found a great wolf toy that is a perfect for my daughter's gnome druid animal companion.

Even better! Since that page is an order page for 192 pieces (costing a whopping 98 bucks!), take the time and repaitng them. Change them from ladybugs to scarabs. Then run your players through a buried, long-forgotten tomb. They break open a sarcophagus, or set off a trab, start bringing out the gold scarabs...and don't stop. They just keep coming.

Neverending scarabs out of a tomb are kind of frightening, but expected. Neverending dire ladybugs pouring out of the orifices of a PC after he contracts ladybug fever is frightening and VERY unexpected.

Here is a video reply I did about repainting this dragon and some other 3rd party miniatures. Nice video. I do agree 100% with you on the value of the third party figures. These dragons are very cheap when seen cost wise next to WotC dragons of the same size. I alos have some Star Wars figures in my collection for the same reason you do. There are some that could easily fit into a fantasy setting. Same goes for some toys. I have a couple of Storm Trooper Tank Bugs from Micro Machine that make great 28mm monsters. Anyway, thanks for showing us your video.

Well you can all guess my policy on D&D monsters 'by the book'.. I make my own monsters half the time and modify them on the fly pretty much every game.. I totally agree with omegadm0357, if you see anything, at all, that you think will be cool for a D&D game.. grab it, mod it and play it until it breaks.

That's what I tend to do. If I see something that would make a great addition to monsters of my world, I get a few and toss them into it. I have seen those dragons and such at Michael's and have been tempted to get a few. One of them of course is the dragon posted here, a few of the others are the Ice dragon, water dragon, and I think they had a lava type one as well that looked like it was made of lava.. Either way, great additions.
