This trap / problem will leave players rowally in the s**t
I am doing a sewer dungeon at the moment and once I can upload photos I will put them up
this but my last room / boss room is like am aqueduct.
Imagine a train platform then a 6foot drop infront then a 10 gap and a 6 foot platform the other side.
Well the other side opposite where to where the players come in is I huge sewage drainage system with a lever next to it. This is where the citys sewage drain from with the lever being pulled, once the players jump down and start to cross the gap a wererat will pull the lever.
Hurling the players back to the wall, taking a form of choking drowning damage against there fortitude then making am endurance check to hold there stomachs down taking extra damage if they fail and leaving them dazed. Save ends. Imagine the story telling behind it!
I cannot wait to put my players through this for the pure shear fun of it :-D

I like this a lot Make sure to give them a charisma penalty while they're covered in sewage, too!

You could also have secondary ways like a shaky thin plank walkway and some dangling chains that are much harder than just closing the gap so when the PCs run blindly into the setup they can kick themselves for passing the secondary routes. This makes them feel they had a choice and they picked the wrong one. To make this work the other ways must be very unappealing but if they take them be prepared to pick up from there.
