So my most recent project is a portable graveyard scene piece that can be dismantled and laid out over a wide area, OR consolidated to make a cluttered private graveyard. The main board is a single sturdy sheet of cardboard with thick cardstock that helps fit the pieces into it and prevents the pieces from moving about too much.
However, a couple problems have arisen that I want some opinions on. First of all, as some of you may know, I don't really have access to a camera to take pictures currently, so that obviously makes it a bit more difficult to understand, but I will try to be as descriptive as possible.
On the the problems I am having:
-In order to fit the gravestones I've made onto the base, I have had to craft the card stock bordered sections so that they lay down in a simplified jigsaw pattern (essentially alternating 1 in. wide "teeth" that alternate up and down across a 4 in. section on two ends of the gravestone site). This is a great solution to the problem of keeping the gravestones in place, but, since I am designing this piece for modularity, I also want to allow for the possibility of placing the gravestones in another area (I'm making four of these jigsaw patterned "pits") and also placing other pieces into these areas.
So far I am planning on putting a single sarcophagi into one of these areas, possibly a small mausoleum, and probably another gravestone site (The more graves the better in a graveyard, right?) But I am now thinking I want to be able to convert the main piece into a causeway with gardens/decorations leading up to a large manner house or chapel, and I'm at a loss for what else to craft to put into these jigsaw areas. Ideas or suggestions?
I am also wondering if anyone has a very simple idea on how to make the jigsaw pattered pieces less obvious in the event I am going to just leave the insertable pieces out (I plan to have a stonework or grassy pattern underneath for each of the 4 "pits")
-Again considering modularity, I wanted to craft a large piece at the end of the causeway I hinted at, that could serve as a large personal or family mausoleum OR a chapel. OR a minor mansion. Or something else. But I'm drawing a blank on how to make this effective except to craft each one and set it down on the designated place. Any ideas?
For this one I am especially wanting to create a versatile way of placing down a facade of sorts to show the PC's the front so they can see what the 3D visual looks like, then be able to remove the facade so that it is playable in the 2.5D format.
So, any brainstorming from the lot of all these wonderful crafting minds would be most appreciated.
