Has anyone used this before? I was thinking it could be useful for small, detailed stuff, that needs to be somewhat perfect (like odd bits of statuary or gates..).

It looks pretty cool but also has a hefty price tag.

For a printer or for each thing you make?
I'm sure the printers themselves are expensive, but I believe there are places you can go get stuff printed..

When I checked it out it was for each piece you order.

The cost for the per item is very high. Of course there are some places that charge for a full bay so the more you fit on the file the better.
I have seen some of the stuff bought for custom 40k figures. Some can be quite brittle but overall I was impressed witht he detail they could get.

I have used shapeways to print a few 3D items. The cost and quality are going to vary widely. Everything from plastic to wax composites have come through TrollForged minis to make masters of for mold making.
Price is usually figured per cubic millimeter.
