Just tossing the idea around because I may have almost derailed a thread with it, but perhaps some skype based or play by post (with pictures) games would be fun for the forum users.
Example 1: Contest resulting in a skype game led by DM Scotty. Watching game play video is nice, but can you guess what is even more fun? Playing! Recording it for a YouTube video would be great! It doesn't need to be a long adventure, even a single encounter gets some forum readers playing.
Example 2: One-off-dungeon crafting contest resulting in a skype based running of said dungeon! Whoever wins runs the dungeon! Runner up and the top maybe... 3 or 4 others play the game or pass their invite to someone else (in case they maybe don't know or want to play the game system.) Recording it for a private (you need the link) YouTube video for crafters here to view would also be pretty nice! Again, it can be a single encounter, dungeon, or whatever. Single 2-4h sitting.
Example 3: Play by Post Dungeons - Someone crafts up all of the components of an adventure, supplies miniatures and all that jazz, and a handful of players play by post. Meanwhile, the DM running the game posts action shots and encounter pieces as the game progresses. In this case, everyone gets to read along while the game is played and see some great pieces, tiles, features, and miniatures in play. Forum would need at minimum a dice rolling mod, but that could be circumvented if the DM just rolled the dice and posted the results. (something like that)
I know these are not video ideas per se, but they could result in some videos, contests, and showcasing that would be beneficial to the crafting community. I think the important part here is that the games would not be for the sake of play by post or for the sake of gaming, but as another way to facilitate and showcase the result of crafter's hard work.
I think everyone on this forum could agree that there is at least one tile, feature, or miniature out there that you would have loved to have shown up in one of your gaming sessions. So, why not find a way to make it happen?
Feedback!
p.s. If there is a more appropriate place for this post, feel free to move it, but I thought the video/contest/live-game hybrid idea kind of resulted in a DM's Craft video.
