Hey Crafters,
I'm working on building a tree-top village where I'll be hosting several social and battle encounters and I was trying to think up some ideas for a tree-top village. I had a few ideas about it and was hoping my fellow crafters could give me their thoughts and ideas. Or if you have already seen this done before, any links or photos would be appreciated.
Tree-tops: The idea I'm leaving towards most is probably putting little treetops cutouts made of cardboard similar to DMScotty's Lizard Folk encounter tiles (Episode 33) and how he did his islands in the swamp. I would paint the islands and the ground mostly the same colors of green but probably with a more faded look on the ground tile to give the illusion of height. Not sure how good I can be at painting an out of focus ground cover but should be interesting to try. Adding some heavy shadowing should help. From there, I was thinking of covering the tree-top pieces with craft moss or some other substance to simulate the foliage. Maybe stick some twigs out of the side of some of the islands to mimic branches of the tree. Since most of my tree-tops are going to be covered, I'm not too worried about it. I'll probably need to have some trees come up out of the village using some of the toilet paper roll techniques that Scotty used.
What's on top of the trees will be some stained/painted popsicle sticks acting as wood planks. I'm not doing too many so it shouldn't be a complicated task and I can still glue them down to make them look pretty nice. From there, I can section off buildings/huts using cardboard layouts and possibly DMScotty's 3d building technique from episode 5 of "Eye" show you my stuff.
Any assistance or comments would be welcome on this idea. It's not 100 percent though out yet but I thought it might be useful to bring this up as I could see tree-top encounters presenting a lot of fun, especially if the PCs are worried about falling out of trees.
