Make sure you all go to the dollar stores if you can and raid holiday stuff for your junk crafting box. plastic icicles and skellis can really add to you crafting joy.

I havent had any luck finding any good skeletons, they all are too big or the stretchy rubber kind. Yeah having the same luck. Can't find even close to scale skeletons. Did find some awesome Lemax Spooky Town miniature village stuff at Michaels. Sadly its all expensive. Hoping to catch it on clearance or a 50% off sale later. They had an awesome bloody fountain mini that would be perfect in a dungeon. Pics here: www.ehobbytools.com/contents/en-us/p3239.html

That spooky town fountain is great (expensive but great). Is the scale good?

That spooky town fountain is great (expensive but great). Is the scale good? From the one I found in store the scale on the fountain is perfect. Most of their trees, fences and general scenery pieces with no characters on them are perfect size for gaming. Their character miniatures are about twice the size of DnD ones though and most of the houses are undersized.

I saw these the other day and thought about picking up some to use for like Giant skeletons. Instead I picked up a few bags of the Night Creatures such as the Ants, scorpions, little spiders, big spiders, snakes, and centipedes. I took some wire and hot glue and used it to position the centipedes into more action types poses then primed them... That didn't work out too well. The plastic that they use does not hold any sort of paint on it so it does not attach to the centipede. Needless to say I had to toss those out. Luckily only a dollar, though sad that they didn't work with the primer. Live, Learn, Craft.

When painting plastic, I always wash mine in hot soapy water, dry and then primer it with Krylon Fusion or any other brand designed to paint plastic. if this still doesn't work try coating it with white glue, then primer it. Another trick is to use spray adhesive, then spray prime. If non of that works, well it IS only a $1.00! I found a bag of the skull rings DM Scotty uses!

Okay...just hit the party store for Halloween. Perfectly sized monstrous spiders for both medium-size and small/swarm sizes -- $1.49 (8 count)and $0.99 (many), respectively.
Bat rings (clip off the rings) for perfectly sized giant bats -- $0.99 for a bag of about 20.

That's a good idea North, I am going to give that a try when I find more of them, or maybe test it on an ant or two.....
Yeah I got the spider rings so I can clip off the ring part and have a swarm of spiders... Love the Dollar Store...

I did some dollarstore raids, and here's what I looted. I'll post the store's name and include Euro prices; maybe there are some German crafters here who find this useful... Euroshop i.imgur.com/8HOnIcJ.jpg800 Toothpicks, 100 kebab sticks, snow spray and a box for pills. Each article 1 €. The snow spray is intended for windows and not as terrain 'flocking'. I sprayed it on a poker chip, it needed almost a day to dry out completely and even now it is very soft - I guess that during play this would flake away a bit. But still a great value vor 1 €. The pill box is great for my all the bits & pieces I've collected - this stuff was in various glasses and large boxes, each almost 99% empty and taking up a huge amount of space compared with the small volume. Not I have all this stuff in one place, and a lot more free space on my crafting table. TEDI i.imgur.com/dw0EQ1N.jpg- Chain of LED light with icicles. The icicles are glued between the LEDs and can be removed without damaging the LEDs themselves, so I could clip them all off and still have a working LED chain. works with 2xAA batteries and was prices at 3 €. - Chain of lights (5 €) with small brown rattan balls (2,5 cm diameter). I'll use them in a Feydark setting (DND 4e, where the feywild overlaps with the underdark), so I need not only lots of mushrooms (done!) but also other exotic flora. I'll either repaint them, add green flocking or cover them with a thin paper (cover with wet & woodglued paper, dry, paint green). I'll add some holes to the cardboard terrain piece so I can hide the wire below it. I think this will be a great 'glowing plants' terrain piece! [update: Example of what you can do (or try to do) with this kind of LED chain: i.imgur.com/wTnGk72.jpg]- Set of 30 small transparent plastic forks. The tips will be used as icicles and the handles are great posts for flying creatures (see the little flying manta in the pic). (1 €) KiK i.imgur.com/Tm2rNNB.jpgAnother LED chain of icicles, this one almost 10 cm long and tinted blue. (2,99 €) 1 kg of quick-drying modelling clay (2,99 € - half the price I paid for my previous mass. Woolworth i.imgur.com/g09U1km.jpgWood glue (1,79 € for 120 gr. I still have 50% in my 1 liter bottle, but I wanted a smaller bottle that I can refill. A bamboo cutlery shelf that I'll convert to a rack for my color bottles (5 €).

Definitely hit the dollar tree if you have one in your area not only do they have snowless pine trees (just paint & or flock the white plastic base) a nicely sized gazebo which may need flocking if you don't want snow & the painting is well ... varied piece to piece so you may have to browse to find one you don't need to touch up, they also carry 2-3"x12-15" cobble stone streets made out of rubber strips & maybe my favorite piece of all (I don't really know why I just like them) these four packs of little stone planters with two small evergreen shrubs and two I'm guessing poinsettias respectively that would spruce up any town or building interior and make some good blocking terrain for partial cover or with an athletics check a nice thrown object and best of all no snow what so ever

Those bags of rubber eyeballs at the dollar store could work nicely cut in half and put on walls, floors, or doors as creepy all seeing eyes, magic traps, or on the end of one of DMScotty's pseudopods for a cool monster. ;3

Forgot to post this before, but I found one of the skeletons posted above on a necklace at Dollar General a couple weeks ago. Cool part is the necklace is made out of skulls that are just a bit big scale wise, but close enough. I got 12 skulls i think for $1. I'm gonna go all GW on a piece soon....

Went to the dollar tree today and found a two pack of LED candles. They light up orange and even flicker, but the base is rather large and uninteresting. Looks pretty hollow though, so I'm gonna pop one open and see if I can put its guts into a better brazier shape. If not, I think a quick paintjob will work okay. They didn't have the trees though.
Also, perusing the aquarium section of the evil big box store today (I try not to shop there, but I am a grad student), I saw a pretty nice dragon skull. It's pretty mammoth scale wise, but could make for a cool encounter location.

Those little LED candles make excellent smoke/fire markers if you add cotton balls. You just hot glue small sections at a time & push on the cotton, then rip it off so it leaves a loose strand, & repeat all the way around. Just type in smoke markers on YouTube there are a few videos of what I'm talking about & no need to take apart the tea lights ;D

I got these at Michael's for about 5 dollars. I was really surprised at how cheap the gems were. They were marked at 3.99 but they rang up at only 1.49. Lucky. When I got them home, I opened up the package, spread them out and said I'M RICH I'M RICH. The spider webs are the same ones belatucadras had, I think I'll use them to mark when players get webbed. www.dropbox.com/s/rc3rnr3tvdzdbli/20131026_165422.jpgI got these from the 99 cents store for about 5 dollars as well. I'm was planning on cutting the skull shot glasses I half and making them into giant, player-sized evil sconces. The metal skull beads were planned to go on a brazier or something, but they're a little expensive and relatively high-quality, so I'm going to put them on a chainmail dice bag. I have no idea what I'm going to use the choker for. At first I thought I might use the gold part for something steampunk, but now I'm doubting whether I'll find a suitable use for it. www.dropbox.com/s/0zkpknbwyldehsu/20131026_170325.jpg

I love the stirges idea, not sure how i overlooked that before. I was actually cutting the wings off a couple of those trying to make stirges, but couldn't really do much with them. I like this idea much better.
Also, thanks a lot for the tip on the LEDs agsupernaturalfe!
