Well. I am an old-school D&Der, raised on the Holmes Blue Box, proud of my "I Survived the Tomb of Horrors" T-shirt. I'd gotten out of the hobby for years, but having kids old enough to play inspired me to start a new group with some colleagues from my department at the University where I teach. We've had so much fun, I wanted a real crazy kicker for our 'Season Finale' before the new school year starts, and I was inspired by The Dm's Craft youtube channel to dig back into some long-dormant bits of my brain and attempt to model 3d terrain for the dungeon beneath teh Temple of the Sea Goddess the PCs are facing. I'm happy with the results, and felt I owed it to DM Scotty and the others here to share what you all inspired : s1301.photobucket.com/user/professordaddy/library/Dungeons%20and%20Dragons%20TerrainThanks so much for your inspiration, guys.

Woah, that is stunning!! Love the skellies in the pools and the stone work on the floors. Did you just paint the stone outlines? Really superb work! Welcome to the forum, can't wait to see more.

Very good for a first timer! The slime pools look great. The stone floor technique was very well done. I like the platform and floor design for the treasure chest room.

Also, just out of curiosity, what department are you in?

Thanks guys! The tiles are foamboard left over from my kid's science fair display, matted onto hardboard from the hardware story because I understand that drying paint makes the paper backing on foamboard curl up unless you've got it on something firm. Wells were made with thin slices of PVC plumbing pipe. Tiles and flagstones were simply drawn/etched in with a firmly pressed ballpoint pen. The floors are grey paint, dry brushed white for highlighting, then a quick coat of super-thin black to deepen shadows. The 'pools' (it is a Sea Goddess temple) are green latex paint, covered with about three thick, gooey coats of gloss varnish, which came out even smoother and shinier and more water-iffic than I could have hoped. I can't wait to put the guys through it.
I teach in the Writing dept at a University of California. My whole group does - buncha forty-somethings, all of us with PhDs, rolling dice and whooping it up in the quad right in front of the undergraduates and God and everybody.

Ha, I expected English, or some humanities department. Must be an awesome group of creative people to play with. I've actually been playing around with etching stones into foamboard also, but I think you've handled much better that I have. Thanks a lot for posting!!

Great stuff, what did the players think? I will have to wait until our first regular meeting in a week, after departmental meetings for the new school year. I will be sure to let y'all know how it went.

based on those slime pools, I think I know the color I have been looking for for my swamp water. :-) Well done!
