Sure.
The game is all about casting spells but you don't 'pay' to cast them as in other games, there's no mana cost or magic points but there must be some way of controlling spell casting and this where
alignment comes in. In the top right of almost every card is a symbol. On the following three cards they are, from left to right:
Chaos,
Law and
Neutral.
When you want to cast a spell you look at which alignment it belongs to then look at the chart
Lawful [Law] is the top row of numbers,
Neutral is the middle row and
Chaos [Chaotic] is the bottom row. You then roll a 1D10 and consult the chart on the appropriate row that the spell belongs too and look at which vertical row of numbers the
Alignment Marker is showing.
For example, let's say the wizard wants to cast the
Ghost (first) card (chaos) in the above cards image. He looks at the chart where the Alignment Marker is (it starts off in the center as in the above picture). The
Chaos row is the bottom so the number the player's after is the bottom number in the marker, it's a 5 so the player must roll a
5 or less in order for the spell to be successful otherwise it fails and is discarded.
If the player wanted to cast a
Lawful spell, that's the top row, it's also 5 so must roll a 5 or less.
If the player wanted to cast a
Neutral spell (middle row) that's a 10 so there's no need to roll 1D10 as the spell cannot fail to be cast (must roll a 10 or less).
Now each time a particular spell is cast, whether it was successful or not, the Alignment Marker moves one space in favour of the alignment of the spell that was cast. So, looking at the above alignment chart, if a Chaos spell was cast the alignment marker would move one space to the right, this would bump Chaos from 5 to 6 while lowering the other two (
Neutral would become 8 and
Law would become 4). The more a certain alignment spell is cast, the more the 'balance' is tipped in that alignments favour and the more harder it is to cast spells of the other alignments.
Of course there's ways to 'tip the balance' and 'pay' to move the alignment marker.
I hope to do a playthrough soon so you'll see exactly how it all works.
