So, since I'm not actually running a game right now but I'm a huge crafting kick and just started painting minis, I asked my man for inspiration as to what I could try to make dungeon tiles for since I'm not running anything. He suggested I build a bedroom for my character in his Mutants & Masterminds campaign, her home in their base of operations.
I'd like to get really detailed, because I'm like that, but also there isn't much detail to go into... the only thing I've specified in game about Grim's room is that it has a wall of shelves with preserved heads (used for one of her powers) in jars, stuffed and mounted, you name it. I'm not THAT great with sculpting, so I'm trying to come up with inspiration as to where to find lots of little heads for cheap.
I raided my midget's toy chest for some cheapie small animal heads, but she doesn't have a lot of humanish heads, and I'm not sure where to get them. I'd like to do a few in "formaldehyde" jars as well, but other than finding A: a REALLY tiny head and B: a REALLY large clear bead to put it in, I'm sort of stuck. Ideas?

If you could find cheap minis just snip the heads off. Those small clear plastic caps on some spray products could be used for the jars.

Hobby Lobby and Michael's carry lines of 1/72nd scaled historical miniatures that would probably be perfect for this. They are usually next to the Safari Toobs or model railroad aisle in their stores. They run $9.99 regularly but you can print 40% off coupons for each store making them about 6 bucks. Hobby Lobby 40% off one item coupon here www.hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm Michal's 40% off one item here weeklyad.michaels.com/. I posted some info on the pack of 1/72nd Lewis and Clark/Indians pack here: dmscraft.freeforums.net/thread/990/source-halflings-gnomes-horses-poniesThe 1/72nd historical lines are about the same size as the small sized miniatures WOTC puts out, i.e. halflings, gnomes, kobolds, goblins, etc... They would probably be perfect size for shrunken heads in jars and you get a ton of them: For the formaldehyde jars you might be able to get really large clear plastic beads and use the bead bottles method shown here: www.abarothsworld.com/Tricks/treasures%20&%20trinkets.htmAlternatively, you could probably glue a rectangular clear strip of plastic to its own end to make a cylindrical jar shape. The plastic bubbles most items come in should work. Cut a strip of plastic out of a bubble, paintwash the side you want to be the inside green then roll it into a cylinder and glue it to a circle of cardstock. You could also go the walking dead governor's route and keep the heads in fish tanks instead. You would simply need to cut some clear plastic into strips and glue them into a rectangular box shape. Use cardstock for the tops and bottom of the tanks. Paintwash the inside of the tanks green and you should get the desired effect.

Aaah, but how would you do the jars? Now I just had an idea that is so simple, I'll have to shoot a video of it...

I feel sort of silly that army men didn't occur to me, but in my defense, I didn't play with army men as a child, and I don't remember seeing them when I was browsing the Dollar Tree.
I've also learned beheading plastic animals from dollar tree is oddly done way faster with a pair of needlenose pliers than with scissors or a craft knife.
For some of the jars I've been wandering around the house and the clear caps (as suggested by DMScotty) on the small bottles of body spray will work if I can find a suitable way to make them less... cap-like. Considering adding beads & buttons as a base. I may even have some buttons that will work as lids.
Thanks everyone for the ideas!
