Hey DMS1!!!!! just joined. I just ordered my hot knife to rebase mage knight and world of warcraft minis and was wondering does it matter which glue gun brand I order for the terrain? I know you said a small and larger one. I was looking at walnut brands? ? I just got an amazing deal and got around $5000 worth of pre-painted minis and books for $750 and have been selling them on ebay and keeping what I wanted so I havent had free time to start posting pics and making stuff but now I am getting to where I do have time so I will start soon here. Just had the question on the glue gun. Wow minis have some really good elemental, minataur, giants like minis and when Im done ill post em.

My bust, also so far I cant tell how you can tell whether a glue gun is small or larger. Im ordering online and so far I just see glue gun and no size indicators.

If they list in in the description, look at the diameter of the glue stick it uses. The larger the dia. the bigger the gun.

There are basically two types of glue guns, large and small. The size label is both indicative of the glue stick and the diameter of the bead extruder tip (made up term lol).
There are of course variations of quality. I've found that the craft store cheap ones are the sameish quality as the cheap ones you get anywhere else, but you can probably get one cheaper at kmart or something rather than craft stores. If you're going to be using it for a while, it seems like hardware stores carry a step up line. Mine is like this and it is "Arrow" brand. Then there are expensive glue gun kits at craft stores for like 30 bucks. These I think can use the small or large size sticks to create either the small or large sized bead.. Seems like a lot of work, and I just control my bead size manually.

You don't ever "need" another glue gun no matter which one you get. You can always do whatever you want to do with either one. The only real difference is that the little one is easier to get in really small amounts (but you can still do it with a big one), and that large ones are easier to cover more area (but you can still do it with a little one).

Should be fine as long as it melts the glue

I have 4 glue guns, 3 large and one small, and they are all nearly interchangeable as far as capabilities go. The one difference is that I have one that is a very old hand-me-down with a very comfortable grip (anyone that has ever spent an entire day crafting may appreciate this) so it is the one that I use almost exclusively. The one exception to this is if I need to make sure that the dabs of glue that come out are very small (usually touching up furniture), then I use the small gun. Even then, a steady hand with a large gun would probably suffice (I tend to hit the trigger too hard sometimes though).

I had a glue gun when I started doing these projects, it was a low temp one. I found it didnt put out enough glue to do big tiles and even on little ones the glue dried exceptionally fast. I quickly switched to a high temp one and can find no faults with it.

I have only one small glue gun. It is a single temp/low temp gun, but I have never needed anything else. The longer glues sticks are the key for me.
I may HAVE to get another one, however, as my wife likes to use it as well.
