Thanks for all the comments!
My players loved the ship, but what interested me is that they immediately started using their measuring sticks to touch the places on the ship where their grappling hooks were going to go, and where they were going to move after they'd swung over. They didn't verbally ooh and ahh over the ship, but instead utilized the model in a very enthusiastic way, which was applause enough for me. The rogue caught the yard at the top of the mainmast with her first throw, waited until the roll of the ships on the waves made The Wormwood rise higher than the Man's Promise, and then swung over into the rigging (she nailed her acrobatics check). At that point, I used a clothespin to grasp the mast and place her mini atop the clothespin. She then started cutting ropes from the rigging and making lasso attacks against the pirates below. The fighter swung over to the quarterdeck and kept station near the ship's boats. The witch failed her acrobatics check when she tried to swing over, smashed into the sterncastle, sprawled on the deck, got bullrushed when she stood up, and wound up spending the whole combat hexing guards from the ship's boats. It was a rollicking good time and I am just about totally certain the cool 3D thinking that my players did would not have been as rich without the model. (The rogue wound up hanging two guards -- it took her like 6 rounds to do it, but she didn't care and nobody (but the guards) did either -- she was having too much fun.)
The shrouds did make it difficult for us to move minis around though, and the deck space was very, very cramped, especially on the quarterdeck. But really, that added a lot to it, because everybody could SEE how crowded it was. Plus, I had put five shark pawns in the water and moved them around each turn, so everybody KNEW what was going to happen if they fell in. Ever resourceful is my rogue, and she again waited for the roll of the ships to be right, and then cut the hanging guards free so they would drop into the water. I simulated their screams to the delight of all...

Oh. And we had so much fun with the combat that nobody realized the model could come apart into different deck levels! We finished the session with the PCs taking the open-air decks, but the cliffhanger I left them with was an explosion from below decks. We'll start next session with the captain ordering the below to find out what happened...

Okay ... this is another level!
Just amazing work!
So many layers, details and the floors can still be disassembled!
Very good job, I'm impressed.
This work gave me some ideas ...

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING I HAVE SEEN TO DATE! You sir, are an inspiration to me. I had been thinking about picking up and running Skull and Shackles at some point in the future, this has cemented it. i will be using your work as an inspiration and a template for what I will do, when I do it. Thank you!
It will be sometime before I get there as I have the bulk of my campaign mapped out with this current group (which is blessing considering how much work will go into just making the ships for that AP) and I will be busy working my group through some heavy modded adventures. We are going to be finishing up To Delve the Dungeon Deep and then I will be moving them off Absalom to the mainland and through Taldor and The Dragons Demand. From there I am going to run them further north into Nirmathas and through Crypt of the Everflame, Masks of the Living God, and City of Golden Death. From there I will take them north again into Ustalav and through the Carrion Crown AP. The trick is going to be able to heavily mod them into including goals and storylines I have in mind for my players characters and making it all work well together. Depending on where they are level wise I may wanna try to get them involved in some activities in and around the Worldwound area. Hopefully my players interest will hold, but if it does not we can always break up the monotony by starting on Skull and Shackles! =)
Again, I think your work here is absolutely awesome and look forward to seeing in more!
