i've been interested in using the texture paint first, then using a dirt color to paint on a different type of background

"100% pre-consumer recycled polystyrene beads" a.k.a. styrofoam. it'll melt/pit when spraypaint is used. so unless that's the effect you want, don't use it while spraypainting.

yeah... i don't like the materials used there, expensive and takes a long time to dry. Those are peices you need to get a LOT of use out of a single piece and you're planning for several weeks in advance, which is not a good idea for DMscotty's approach to terrain (quick, cheap and disposable) but is fine if you're a wargammer who'd get several hundred uses out of it.
I hope you can get the different effects (the quick moving river and the rapids as well as other stuff) out of roughly the same materials scotty!

If i remember correctly, he said that his Lava video could be re-purposed into a river video by changing a few base colors. The dark spots in the magma could be rocks in the river.
However, lava moves slow... I'd like to see a fast moving river, with rapids, and deep pools of swirling eddies. Basically i want to see the Colorado river IN the grand canyon

Alas, two sick people giving advice, what can go wrong!
I think the best thing to do would be to have stalactites acting a pillars that the bridge is lashed onto to keep it from falling too far. Here's what i mean: you have stalactites coming up from the floor that go above the bridge's level, you can simply build a bridge. Then have a piece of small brown twine to act as 'rails' as well as attaching them to each plank, mostly with some brown string (sewers string perhaps?) and a small punched hole. Basically you're building the bridge as the builders would, but with smaller materials. Then to keep it from stretching too far down, stabilize where needed with cardstock underneath, then fashion to the stalactites so the bridge does not shake too much side to side. You can offset the stalactites so PCs can twist the bridge to make monsters fall off while keeping themselves safe

same problem with me, although i do have a g-mail account. I get a 404m or a server error. I suggest using either the [ img ] tags or just putting them elsewhere.

The good news is that there are 3d printers that are coming down in price. The bad news is that it's still well over $3000 to buy one. Hopefully soon they will come further down in price so i can buy one and start making my own minis!
I'm trying my best not to go all out and not getting more than the bare necessities right now, like a few of the core races in each type of armor (just three, warrior, cater and ranged) and one or two of the not-so-core races (except dragonborn, they're super expensive). The sad thing is that i have an ebay account but i'm not using it!

I also have a trick for players who wring the die across the table. I found these dollar store smooth glass bowls which are shallow that i told them to roll their dice in. I have two experienced players at my table so i don't have to worry about them but the new players... oh my god! I'm just glad i don't have a dog. A dog would have eaten all my d20s by now

I saw this being used by Mike Shea of Sly-flourish. He has a youtube channel that he had ~7 videos released on late 2010. I have to tell you i drink a lot of coke, way too much for me really. I introduced using them in my last session since just throwing these on is a lot simpler than picking up the mini each time, and having these allows the OCD player in my group to keep paying attention, since i give him all the rings and have him keep track of them.

I believe making a lay-down sarcophagi is easy with a bit of cardboard and cardstock, one piece to serve as the base one for support and the cardstock for the sides and face. The crumbling pieces are a question mark, as are removable lids (though i suspect double walled sarcophagi would be an option). And i've figured out how to make upright ones just now...

I like your videos when they are 30 minutes long, it gives me just enough time to watch your work at hand while giving me time to think on my own. i'm afraid that if you fast forwarded your process, i'd miss out on my thinking time because i'd miss something important. Being long winded to this current degree i feel is just right since we can brainstorm within watching but not be bored.
Besides, if your bored watching youtube, go to twitter

minion-esque human characters, either commoners, town guardsmen, or even a minion type with a blank breast which we can put custom symbols onto

yes, the first 3 'seasons' of AQI are great, but i've listened to some other actual play recordings from places like the gamer's haven and i had to fast forward some times because i was getting bored. I don't want combat to take too long like it does in 4e but i don't want it taking 5 minutes because the wizard decided to fly and rain down 4 fireballs in one round. I'm a believer that the appropriate time for a battle is somewhere between 15-30 minutes, and have great things happening along the way
That said, doing at least a snippet, like the first 5 minutes of your combat would do some great things for the gridless videos, letting people understand how flanking works in a gridless system, and other things as well

no no OTW, i was talking about sanding away from the wood itself, i'm not fiddling with clay onto a wooden ball, i know i'd mess that up but i know i'm good at making sawdust and sculpting from harder sources. Plus i just bought a dremmel and i want to do something with it

he plays 4e, i believe that the vid would be split into 4 parts JUST for an encounter. That said i need ideas for walking into a room and what to describe. I keep forgetting to do so and i only describe what's necessary for the encounter

this is inspiring me to make my own mini, except the one thing i'd change is to use some way to carve out a more face like shape for the beholder, mayhaps use a slightly smaller sphere...

I'm not in favor of making temporary things such as walls a major project. Right now i use little squares of clear plastic that work for bursts and blasts, but i also have small dots that fill the square (because i still use grids. don't try to talk me out, it's a decision i made for my players who are still new, i'll eventually get it there). I got these folders that work great because they're easily cut, and they come in a lot of diffrent colors, i got ones for ice, fire, force, radiant, darkness (the dark ones i use a lot to cover up my dungeon) and a lot more. The best thing is they are only about a dollar each and you can get so much out of each folder
