I have been toying with the idea of building an arena. I could make it out of foam or cardboard but if I use foam I do not want the walls to be very tall. Has anyone else made one or have any ideas? I don't want it to be just a big circle with walls/seats around the outside.

Hey if they break you just craft more =) Or you could just boil them for 8 minutes, add some fresh garlic, olive oil, and a few shaves of parmigiano reggiano and BAM! Dinner is served.

I love the pasta idea. Do you have any concerns as to their fragility?

I seem to remember some US backers of the dwarven forge KS talking about how they had to pay for shipping from UK. I could be mistaken though. After doing the research, which should have been done previously(but where's the fun in that?), I have learned that nowhere on the KS website can I find any requirement to give free US shipping. This would leave a person to believe that it was a conscious choice on the part of Reaper to do so. So, why would they risk alienating overseas backers when it would have been easier, and cheaper for them, to just charge everyone shipping. Charging the $10 or $20 for US shipping would certainly save them from some heckling. Yeah, I am betting that next time they do charge everyone just to avoid the ROW headache like this time. I know I will still be in it if it costs an extra $20.

I understood that part. I meant that it is intrinsic to KS to give free US shipping. As in it is a requirement. I seem to remember some US backers of the dwarven forge KS talking about how they had to pay for shipping from UK. I could be mistaken though.

Someone said that the KS website thingy way of doing business requires free USA shipping. If that is accurate then I would bet they would charge US shipping if they could. I don't know, though, as I did no research before typing this message. It is free shipping for all US customers.

I do not know for sure. But if I had to guess I would say that they probably work about the same when they are wet. But after they dry the flexible will bend without snapping as the regular might break. Just a guess.

Those flesh textures are totally creepy. I would not go near that stuff if I was playing in your game.

You desecrat the sanctity of gridless play! You may be using 2.5d, but it is lazy, gridded 2.5d. If this is the future of crafting, I will stay in the past. I have to say that this is the first time I have seen someone bash someone else on this forum. The people on this forum are here to learn from other crafters and to share their works to help and inspire other crafters. Just because he chooses to play with a grid does not mean that he is lazy. In fact, putting grids on tiles is more work than gridless. In one of your recent threads you posted this picture from your game. And you are calling him lazy? I chose not to comment on this because I was taught that "If you do not have something nice to say then do not say anything at all". As to the original poster Chris, I look forward to seeing your stuff when you get it all painted up. Please keep posting pics of your progress.

The claw looking things are the legs off of some sort of insect/transformer toy. The armor looking piece under the head was the back of some other toy. I added the jewels.

Finally finished my styrofoam archway that I sculpted with my new hot wire tools. I used hot glue to add on some of DM Scotty's colored crystals to make it look "magical". The hot glue helped melt the styrofoam a little so that I could push the crystals into the foam a little. I think it turned out pretty good, if I could do it over I would use less crystals and place them less symetrical. Thanks for looking.

Woohoo, I made an $800 sale on ebay. Now I can get all of the stuff I want from this kickstarter. I am thinking about getting a bones 1 set as well and a bunch of paint.

You could make some blades out of card stock if you want to add more of them.

DAY 7 And on the seventh day DM Brad rested. Well, not exactly. Today I have been playing around with my new hot wire foam factory tools. I made a hill piece and some kind of archway/portal. I need to go get some big bottles of paint and some flocking to finish this. I feel kinda silly even posting it at this stage but here is the start of it. The tools are really cool and I am sure once I get used to them I will be able to make some pretty cool stuff. And with that the craftathon has come to an end. Thanks for all of the comments. Time for a beer.

Day 6 Forest tile part 2 Finished my forest encounter tile. This encounter could be used at any level because it is mostly skill based. It also shows how you can use one crafty little goblin to cause lots of trouble and aggravation to the players. THE TREEHOUSE OF HORRORS The encounter is based around the players coming across an elven family in the forest. One day while the family was away from their tree home, a mischievous goblin named Snort climbed into their home and took it for his own. The family tells the pcs that they will reward the party with a few magic items if they can get rid of the pesky goblin. Unknown to the party, Snort is already using the items. A cloak of elven kind, a brooch of shielding and a ring of feather falling. Due to his items, camouflage, and the terrain, he will be almost impossible to hit with ranged weapons and or spells. He will only attack when the players are at their most vulnerable. Snort will taunt them mercilessly and throw rocks down on them as they try to climb the rope to the first level (climb skill check). I made some little rock piles but forgot to put them in the pic. When the players attempt to cross the rope bridge (balance skill check) to the next area Snort will shoot some arrows at them. Next the pcs will have to cross the tightropes. Here they can do a balance check or climb check depending on how they want to cross. Two of the four ropes have been cut and weakened by the Snort, if the players make a spot check they will see which ones are safe. When they get to the ladder Snort will drop a beehive down on them, this is another climb check with a -4 penalty. Tightropes to third area and ladder to the fourth area. The very top has a trap door in the floor which Snort cut the climbing rope to. The players will have to jump up to grab and pull themselves up(jump skill check). By this time the pcs will likely truly hate this little PITA. When they get to the top, much to their dismay, Snort has used the ring of featherfall to leap from the top level and has disappeared into the forest with all of the treasures. And the pcs have gained a new recurring enemy to deal with later.

My advice would be to start off making simple dungeon tiles. Just make several different sized rooms and hallways. Make sure and measure the gaps for the doors so that they are a standard size so that one door will fit in any opening. If you want to make larger doors measure those too. This will cut down on the number of doors you need to make. As far as accessories, I would start with things like torches, braziers, tables, stairs, crates/barrels, fur rugs, a campfire, tents, 2d trees, large rocks.
Just start making stuff from DM Scotty's videos and before you know it you will have tons of things to fill your tiles.

Here is my make of the worm. Nothing original here for this make. I even attempted to get the coloring close to what Scott made because I thought it looked good. At some point I plan on putting a satin finish varnish to seal it and keep it safe. I'm completely happy with the belly though and might try to add some color to it. I might let the others at the table decide. I made the base larger to help offset the weight of the worm. I glued several Popsicle sticks to the bottom but it still warped a little. Either way, here it is... Purple Worm vs. Orc Warrior page not found for the pic

DAY 5 The forest encounter tile. Part 1 I did not have much time to craft today but I did manage to knock out this forest tile which will serve as the base for an encounter I am designing. More details to come in part 2.

I get the whole stinger thing, but I would think that the worm would be fully out of the ground for that.

Day 4 Cleaning out my bits bin. Today I used up some of my plastic "junk" that I have been amassing. First one is just a Tropicana OJ lid that I stuck a little dragon looking toy I got at a yard sale. I painted it to look like a statue with shiny gem like eyes. The next one is a bit more complex. I used another OJ lid but this time I used the skulls from the dollar store rings. On top of that is a woodsie like used in DM Scotty's braziers. Then some claw looking toy I got from the goodwill toy bin (added some skull rings to it too). Topped off with a cool little "floating" pyramid toy also from goodwill. Not sure exactly what this thing is, some sort of evil artifact I guess. I have also been working on a pretty huge tile that I will put pics of up tomorrow.

When I made mine, after i put the white glue on the paper towel I waited a few hours and then added the second coat of white glue and let that dry overnight.
