If you need pillars on the cheap & easy I've three simple ideas:
1.) Cut a few of the average glue sticks in half (the average being 4" long) base them with cardboard paint them up & wham pillars! (BTW the glue sticks with the wider diameter look best, but the thin ones work too so to each his own just get crafting!)
2.) Scour the recycling of a friend or family member who drinks wine &/or liquor & rummage for corks now most of the new corks are rubberized & don't taper off so they're easy to base, paint & play. (I don't see a reason not try out real corks that taper off too)
3.) Get an inch or so diameter dowel they're less then $3 & are a yard long (that's 3' long which is 36" long which could potentially be 18 2" or obviously 36 1" high pillars again base, paint, play, repeat!)
(Going for that Greco-Roman look? Glue tooth picks/match sticks cut to size around the item of your choice & bam plain jane pillars become frilled, ancient columns!)

18 of the 2 inch high pillars, but we get what you mean. All great ideas and ways to make them. Another, if you need HUGE pillars is just to pain up some tp rolls after gluing them to some card stock or board, depending on the effect you are going for

If you work anywhere that uses a credit card machine, the rolls of paper come on either plastic or cardboard rolls. These are very useful. You can also get thicker cardboard rolls in things like plastic wrap containers. In Australia you can now get soda in "bullet" aluminium cans which are long and thin about the same size as toilet paper rolls - also energy drinks as well. Very nice. You can hot glue a stack of soda (soft drink) bottle tops one on top of another, these would also be good for collapsed pillars or pillars that are falling apart. In my recent video I used one toilet paper roll to make 4 pillars...

Hehehe ... Guess I wrote such a long-winded post I didn't double check my math thanks for the correction (I'll edit it thusly) & thanks for the general replies from all. You both have good ideas & of course I checked out your pillar video DMG I'm subscribed to your DMGinfo channel on YouTube after all. ;p
