Hey guys, thought I would share a few outdoor tiles I have made. This is a path through very dense, kobold infested forest. Kobolds ambushed the party from the dense underbrush, and were able to quickly retreat after several were hacked up by the 6th level PCs. Since the PCs are much too high level for kobolds, I had to come up with ways to make them more challenging. As they started to swing over a very noticeable pit trap in the trail, an unnoticed (very hard DC) siege weapon tore broke through a wall of fake underbrush cleverly concealing it's path. One PC heard it coming, and relied on quick reflexes to jump out of the way. The wizard was not so lucky and was nearly killed as the spikes impaled him against a tree.

After fighting off hordes of kobolds, the PCs moved ahead, following the trail to a grove of massive trees. Several kobolds with drakes attacked on the ground, as a few other sneaky ones hid in the massive trees. If you're familiar with DM Johnny, you may already have guessed that the kobolds are attached to elastic vines and bungee safely back up after attacking. I don't have any action shots of this scene, but I thought some of you might be interested in teh trees. I combined DM Scotty's 2.5 d tree idea with his toilet paper tube trunks to make these.

Looks great!...I love encounters with low level monsters that the PCs underestimate but have set up elaborate traps or ambushes! Thanks for sharing these cool pics.

These look really neat! The seige wagon looks epic. Bonus points awarded for Kobolds being crafty with traps.

I have a kobold player character in my weekly game, she was raised a vegan monk by Githzerai.. when she ate an egg in the last game, she kind of turned feral for a little while, and immediately went into a flurry of trap setting in the cellar of the tavern the characters own.. turns out there was a good reason the Gith never fed her any meat. Luckily nobody got seriously hurt, though there were plenty of darts randomly thudding and zotting into necks and arms during the course of the evening.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I made three of the trees, but after the second one, got really tired of messing with the toilet paper mess. I decided to just use hot glue and sand to texture it instead, so it didn't turn out as nice. Been wanting playable trees for some time now, so I'm glad I saw the videos from Scotty to learn how.
Cool story with kobold player, AJ. Sounds like you have players worthy of your awesome DMing.

Swanky looking cycad! I half expect to see a dinosaur stomping out from behind it to look for some kobold-nuggets. I especially like how dense you made the forest seem -- I could totally buy that a PC would miss a trap (or a siege engine) hidden in all that.

I'm just finishing up a Kolbold cave with my players. The group averages 6th lvl, with a 7th lvl rogue. The encounters that have given them the most trouble is the kobold cavalry. Rearranged the kobold skills with a ride focus, and the monitor lizards in beast #1 that I gave the ability to walk on walls. Give them lances and they charge around the room, using the ceilings to charge.
