I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to do secret doors. Obviously they should not be able to be seen on the tiles until after they are discovered.

The trick is to not give visual cues to give them away. I just stick a tile up to another one without a door cut in it to simulate hidden doors. If you want you can craft a tile twice. Once with a secret door open and once with it hidden.

You can also cut out just a frame in cardboard, and then use a paperclip or other similarly stiff wire to make a bracket to rest against the "wall" and hold it to the tile. Something like the Heroquest open doors, except with the bracket a quarter-inch off the floor (or however tall your "walls" are) instead of the plastic base.

Once with a secret door open and once with it hidden. If you want "secret doors", I would do what Scotty said "one tile without a door" and "a copy of the same tile with a door"! When the player approach the door or active it, you can replace the tile with the one that has a secret door. You could also make secret doors on the floor (traps). If you draw squares everywhere, the players wont see where the trap(s) is. Hope this help!

A friend of mine came up with this idear, that you lay a strip under the tile, the same hight as the tile wall, and then let the secret passage wall overlap the wall of the tile. This way you can place the secret passage where ever you want. Hope you can see what I mean in this pic.

I can't seem to get the video to link up that I was going to share. Guess I need to figure out something other than Picasa. Anyway, here is my best effort to describe what I created. I used really thin button snaps (I think I got a 6 pack for like 2 bucks at the local craft store). I hot-glued the male end to the floor, and the female end to the wall piece. Getting excess glue out of the female receiver in order to allow for functionality was an obstacle at first, but I figured it out. Discovering a functioning version of a revolving secret door is pretty bad-ass if you ask me

Thanks Secret entrance to a thieves guild was the use in the prototype. Later incarnations will beneath be installed beneath crafted bookcases and the like, instead of just flat wall pieces.
