Hi crafters
I am trying to create road tiles for my city based campaign. For that I need to be able to have cobblestone(or similar)texture and need advice on how to make it the fastest and easiest way.
I was thinking on using a empty marmelade jar and cut cobble like pieces from an spongy foam thing my wife provided for me. Then I could roll the jar over my tiles and make the cobblestones fast and easy....right?
Or do any of you have a better idea?
All my tiles would be in two lenghts and two to three different widths(for narrow alleys!).
Best crafting, evilolle!

That actually sounds like a great solution and I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out.

That sounds like a very clever solution. You can also get some peas or other small round objects, put them in a tray, cover them with paint, and use that for a cobblestone effect - it will have less repetition of patterns, as you can rearrange the peas/balls as often as you want, but wastes more paint and is more effort.

Try Some aquarium gravel and glue it down with just some dirt, then use the seal coat over it when dry.

I will try it over the weekend so dont hold your breath, yet!
I might also try the 'stamp' solution Dmscotty showed in one of his vids!

Hi,
You could create a "template", put some painting on it and use it to place "stone marks" on your tiles. DM Scotty made a video that explain the process. When I was a kid (and my girlfriend who has a daycare at home will do), is cut a potato... You can also use a piece of foam, cardboard, etc... Hope I explained it properly!

I hope that the end result will be like a template so I can use it for various sizes and not just short obvious similar cobblesstones. What will be a good/easy way to get the feel of gravel and stones? Small amount of playground sand? To have the minis stand on uneven surface!
Hope I get the time in the weekeend to create my tiles!

Upload them to an image-sharing website like imgur.com and then link them here by copying the URL.

You can add an attachment right on the post, there's a button that says 'Add Attachment' at the top right.

Great! Another site i need antother password from to remember ?&kr/:%#€+?{} sorry but that is not going to happen!
Then I will tell you what I did today! I could not wait to get home from work to craft. First I base painted the tiles with a brush, year not spray paint, bacause I wanted the small unevenness on these tiles. Then mixed white and black paint and used my cobblestone template. I made it like dmscotty's just to try it. It worked fine, better than I expected. But I wanted more and better so I took some more tiles base painted them black but also added some brown spots, to create the idea of dirt between the cobblestones. But I wanted more and better again, sorry, so I mixed construction sand into the cobblestone paint, to get more rough surface.....it looks great and almost like tiny cobblestones. Cant wait to tomorrow! I just love this sh**!

Imgur does not require an account to upload anything, you only make one if you want your uploads tied to a single account.

Did this help? On a few of them you can see the sand/gravel in the paint. I think it looks great and real!

Damn! Yesterday evening I created some more tiles for my city campaing and messed up bigtime! To save paint(opviously not time) I watered it, too much, so now both ends is pointing at the sky and looks ready to be thrown out! Now I will have to start over, again! And I might not have time before my next session friday evening! Well 4 tiles, all straight, no bends, turns or corners must be good enough!

Try to counter the bend with some glue on the other side, it might work

For perhaps a more well traveled road, you could take clay or otherwise, modge podge, etc, and then roll wheels through it, letting the wheel indent dry and then paint over it.

I am sure this post is late, but what if you mist the tile down with water to get it a little wet, then flip it so the curves are facing the table/desk/hard surface, and put something heavy on top..

You could build a few layers of "stone" to match the warping making the road running through a hilly section of town.
