Have you ever been in a liquor store (package store, off-license) and seen the small taster bottles? jing-wen.com/2008/04/25/mini-liquor-bar/They are only 1-2 dollars, and you might even get a sizable discount from the landlord if you purchase a larger bottle or two, if you ask. However, grab half a dozen different shapes. Drink and enjoy. Then... -----------MAKING THE BOTTLES Spray the outside of the bottle with some spray adhesive and roll it in sand. Let dry. Paint it as if it were clay bottle. Take another and paint it with a clear acylic paint that will be transparent when it dries. And you have a colored glass bottle. Mix up the colors of glass bottles and different typs of clay bottles, and you have a good assortment of magic potion bottles ready to be filled. -----------FILLING THE BOTTLES Each bottle should have different types of liquid in it. Some should taste good, some sweet, some bitter, sour, and even revolting. Some possibilities include 1) A bit of Pink Bismuth (Pepto Bismol), with some green food coloring 2) Salt Water with thyme 3) Vodka and lemon juice, mixed with water 4) green tea with pulped lettuce 5) blue soured sweet tea with cinnamon 6) sweet orange juice with mint -----------OTHER IDEAS You don't want anything that would actually make anyone sick. Such as, no kaopectate or liquid stool softener. Look in your kitchen, and mix some spices with other safe drinkable liquids. Such as putting Nutmeg in with some stale Pepsi, and mix in some orage jello wil it;s mostly all liquid. Nasty? Sure, but perfectly safe. And if the player doesnt finish the potion, neither does the character, and depending on the GM or game rules, the potion might have no effect.

As cool as crafting the bottles is, I wouldn't actually go so far as to make random drink concoctions. First of all, unless your gaming group is held at your home and everyone is old enough to drink alcohol, any liquor based beverages aren't a good choice. Second of all even something completely innocent could cause someone's gag reflex to kick in and cause vomiting if they have a poor reaction to a drink. And finally, some liquid combinations don't keep well, and unless you change out the liquids every time a game comes up (Which you really should, and it shouldn't need to be said), things can get really gross really quick and turn into an actual health hazard.
SO, I would recommend just having the bottles. If you are going to do anything as far as liquids go, I would only go so far as filling them with different colored Gatorades. Again, keeping in mind that you need to rinse the bottles out thoroughly after a game, even if it wasn't used. Moldy Gatorade isn't appealing to anyone.

Oh, I concur wholeheartedly about alcohol vs the youth. No question there. I never mentioned it because I was assuming everyone here had common sense.
However, the options given were just that, optional. It all depends upon your tastes and how you choose to run your game. This is, by no means, a mandatory list.
Of course, everything that I made would be fresh. Nothing would be moldy. I thought I also made that clear when I said "safe drinkable liquids". Even the revolting drinks would not be so hideous as to cause vomitting. Notice I never mentioned Ipecac.
Gatorade, Pepsi, tea, milk, OJ, apple juice..these are all fine as well. I only mentioned the others because they would give more of a sense of drinking a concoction that a witch or herbalist might make. Some bitter, some sour, some sweet, some not so tasty.
Even so, fill them with whatever, or keep them empty..

It does depend on your preference and your groups willingness to accept whatever you do here, but I felt it was definitely worth stating things that should be common sense or obvious....be careful about putting odd liquids together and passing them about. So, didn't mean to sound like a kill-joy, but you can never be too cautious about stuff like this.

Thanks onethatwas. I understand, but I always go into the forums with the assumption that people have common sense. Am I too trusting? Perhaps. It's my nature. However, I do understand your concern. Thanks skunkape. But I have a very real problem with purchasing those craft bottles, as opposed to my whiskey/rum/bourbon ones. Where the hell is the joy in emptying them?

It's no problem. Having that innate Trust can be a good quality, but having a natural suspicion can also be a good quality. Somewhere in between there is balance.
And where there is balance, there is zen...

Just don't put a tag on it that says "Drink Me" and everything will be fine! You're right. I'll put a tag that says "Do not drink me under ANY circumstance!" Reverse psychology. hehehe

Reminds me of a crazy LARP (my first experience with it and the people playing were certainly not your average LARP crowd).. basically, anyone who cast spells had to eat the spell components before throwing the bean bag or dusting the area with flour.. an entire hand full bag of jelly snakes or an entire can of soda. Hell of a constitution, those combat wizards...
