This thread is inspired by this picture.
What I hope it will become is a discussion about and a gallery of crafty things that you think are actually more artful, and why you think that.
Pertinent to this conversation are definitions of the words art and craft. Also a good understanding of the current state of the arts vs. crafts debate. A lot of people feel that it is fairly cut and dry what makes X=art and Y=craft, but certain things bend that definition, and may lead to hybrids, like craft-as-art or the art of crafting.
Also, this discussion is not intended to consider "fine arts" or "studio crafts" which are specific things.
The more interesting portion of the preamble to this discussion is the current state of the debate, so I will state that now and have the definitions after for your leisurely perusal.
The Crux of Arts vs. Crafts:
In the case of 2.5D terrain, I think this firmly places it in the craft section, but we talk about things like painting and miniatures here, and that picture certainly rides the line, am I right? The person who did this can obviously not paint worth a crap, and is basically a person that would probably post on this forum, that had an idea. That went into art in my opinion, but he achieved it firmly by craft skills. Does that mean we're all latent artists? Have you ever wanted to do something like this? What does this inspire in you?
If you're still reading, you're a nerd. That is all.

I've formatted the definitions to better fit the forums, but the words and their orders are all straight from the Oxford Dictionary, at oxforddictionaries.com

The Crux of Arts vs. Crafts:
- That "craft" involves a skill, and application of that skill to make something is crafting. The thing you are making has a purpose, and whether it is beautiful or not can fulfill that purpose.
- That "art" is meant to evoke emotion, and an evaluative state in the observer. The art that you create can but need not have a purpose, and in fact a thing that you make with no purpose is a hallmark of that which is art.
