I am starting a Science Fiction (Star Trek more specifically) Campaign with a few of my Trekkie Friends. I want some suggestions on how to make tiles, damage effects, even where to get nice minis. I would also like to get nice minis or models for ships that are more maneuverable to simulate space combat (Perhaps with wire stands like in some WWI/WWII Fighter Games?) I would appreciate any suggestions!

www.startrek-starships.com/usa/index.asp they have scale models of various Trekkie ships they don't really mention the scale unless you're a member so good luck ... Sorry I can't help more I'm a Browncoat myself & we got lucky even though the show may have been canceled we got a movie & a TTRPG out of it. (And Nathan Fillion is awesome as Castle ;p)

Here are some minis for Star Fleet Battles. That would be great for ship battles. Never actually used those rules before, but they have been around forever. www.starfleetgames.com/miniatures.shtmlFor character sized minis, just use DMScotty's tile method to create things like the bridge and engineering.

I tried anywho if you do interiors for the ships DMScotty style 2.5D tiles should be cool enough terriainaholic on YouTube did something similar in a respond video for a Warhammer 40k ship and I'd try some really small scaled metal mesh from a hardware store as the flooring of some bridges, cat-walks, etc. glue 'em straight to the tile or at least lay them down on a tile & spray paint them for the pattern. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck GeekChris! (May the force be with you ..... Uh I mean live long and prosper .... Sorry I had too hehe....) ;p

Holy crap was just on www.trollandtoad.com & said what the hell I'll type in Star Trek in the miniatures section and BLAM! Star Trek tactics heroclix came up both crew minis and ships each ship will be about the size of a d&d mini but if you do the starship battles on a separate star field then the planets side & ship interior encounters it shouldn't make a difference anyway. Just re-base the minis. Hope this makes up for the other idea I posted. ;3

Pre-made bases especially flying bases can be pretty pricey (like $5 + another $8 shipping for 5 bases) I tend to use round woodsies painted black for people & monsters ... But for flying base I like to buy a pack of those two piece plastic champagne glasses from a party store the translucent base & fluted neck is great for gluing on flying minis (can't find the two piece ones a good pair of snips will cleanly cut the single piece plastic cups) There is a whole thread somewhere on the forum about what people do for flying bases one I've seen a lot recently is a cardboard, metal washer, or wooden base with a glue stick melted on both ends vertically one end on the base the other on the mini respectively.

I was thinking of doing a bendable wire stand for more manuvaribility

And check out ben's RPG pile on YouTube (he's got a website too) he re-bases a lot of hero/horrorclix & mageknight minis. I don't think he's done a flying mini yet but it'll at least help you get them off without breaking the minis. I Believe he uses a razor knife and wraps a small towell or facecloth around the hand holding the mini to prevent cutting oneself if I remember correctly. ;3

That's a new one to me sounds cool though I'd go for a thick gauge wire for support and ease of pliability or if you have an old set of electrical wires still in rubber tubing try using those (just make sure they are unplugged first hehehe .... DMScotty says only you can prevent electrical crafting fires) ;p

I was thinking that for the space combat system, each officer (PC) would roll for a different thing (enginering speed, science shield/defense, tactical weapons/attack pilot dodge/agility/athletics) to include all off the PCs in combat.

Pretty cool idea ... Definitely check out D20 modern and it's supplements D20 Future, & future tech they are all by wizards of the coast so you know the rules will parallel well with D&D style play & I know they're clashing sci-fi ideologies but check out some of the the rules from the star wars & Serenity RPGs it might save you a lot of time making rules from scratch well whatever you decide good luck & God speed. & definitely keep us posted as your rules & game play unfold

I'm not overtly versed with Star Trek I think you named every race I know from their canon I do think you could cut very tiny pieces of pipe cleaners off and base them as Tribbles

But always look outside the box and check out troll toad.com's other minis for inspiration too: D&D, pathfinder, heroclix, horrorclix, mageknight, monster apocalypse, dream blade, etc. the. There is also reaper minis, malifaux, zerboz, and always keep a keen look out at dollar stores, thrift store, barging bins, etc. you never know you might find something you're looking for ;3

I hate the strange suggestions it give you when the touch screen screws up hehe .... And a purple worm wrapped with cotton balls would be funny as hell as a tribble worm maybe a bunch of tribbles can fuse to worm when provoked hehehe ;D

Frozen pizzas are usually on round card board no need for cuts and cause they're frozen they are mostly clean
