In honor of DMScotty's Vacation. I will be Posting something I have crafted every day this week starting on tomorrow. Maybe just little stuff, but hey lets keep active in absence of our fearless leader. I am starting work on my purple worm today and I am sure I am not the only one.

I've been making terrain, and there was a funny moment at work where I got some strange looks, due to me wandering around the trees around the lunch room, plucking moss and lichen off the bark and shoving it into a bag.
"What are you doing?" "I'm gathering moss for craftwork" "Oh.. I thought you were praying or something" "No no.. I make stuff like.. you know, model trains? Like that, but for games" "Oh! Like lego" "Lego? Um, yeah kind of.." "Whats his name.. Sheldon Cooper!!" "Yeah, Big Bang Theory.. You got it, I am doing that" "Ha ha.. cool.. "
Afterward, two things amused me about that exchange.. the first, that what I was doing was cool.. when did that happen? When did I no longer have to defend myself for doing geeky things? The second was, this person was more alarmed that I was outside on one knee, praying in front of a tree, than anything else. I'm not a believer myself, but that struck me as hilarious.

DAY 1 Here is the finished but unpainted purple worm and some of DMScotty's Colored Crystals. I had to make my purple worm base bigger, it was quite top heavy for some reason. I even filled the bottom tube of the worm with gravel along with the toilet paper.

Love it, not only the worm but also the crystals! If you shape it so that it first bends backwards and then comes again lurching forward, you not only get a great 'movement' but also avoid the creature becoming top-heavy: i.imgur.com/ut5BSh0.jpg

Loving those scales on it, reminds me of the sand worms of Dune.

I will be starting my purple worms tonight before work and even at work.. It's nice that they don't mind if I craft at work as long as I don't make a mess and do what I need to do.

DAY 2 Here are some DM Scotty style stone blocks made with milk duds boxes. And some cheap trees/bushes from pieces I got from the goodwill toy bins.

There will need to be a gallery of completed purple worms. Keep the Craftathon alive, and finish that worm!

Day 2.5 Forgive me father, for I am a worm. I am calling this one done, I am very happy with it. Thanks again DM Scotty for the awesome idea.

Very Nice worm. Waiting on mine to dry. Gonna put a weight in bottom tube of mine for stability. Anyone know if the baking clay would work with maw? Thought I might soak the toothpick/skewers in water before baking...

This is a cool thread idea Brad, can't wait to see what you post tomorrow. Very nice job on the worm! Thanks for sharing. DM Scotty has bred a whole army of royal invertebrates. They're gonna be like tribbles around here. I imagine a PC heaven--a tavern obviously--where recently digested adventures will soon be lamenting their ridiculous fate and complaining about the inexplicable rise in purple worm attacks in every world.

DAY 3 Here we go! Alright, I started off today making over 50 miniature potion bottles. I also made some mini books and scrolls to go with the bookshelf and desk I made yesterday. Combine it all for a couple of neat little pieces. On to the next project!!!

I absolutely love those bottles! That is crafting at it's best: simple design, easy to realize and absolutely great effect. Thumbs up and hats off! I can't top 50 pieces for today, as I created only one. I turned this... wooden scale (part of a cone, though I don't know which tree), a poker chip, a one-use cocktail fork, four pieces of scrap metal from a twist-off cap ...into that: A small flying manta-ray (a DND monster called 'Ixzan' or Ixitxachitl) on a flying stand and a water-themed base. I gloss-varnished the manta's back but not the belly to see how different that looks. I'll paint it's belly tomorrow, just loks better that way. I glued the scraps to the creature's belly, the base and both ends of the transparent flying mount - that way I don't need to glue the magnets on and can reuse them. These neodym magnets might be cheap (7-8 eurocent per piece), but I hate to glue waste them: if glued on, most of the time they would be in some box, gathering dust. Only problem is that they are strong enough to rip the metal chip off the wood, so I need to find a solution to that... Total crafting time: 10 minutes, of which 3 minutes were used for color-drying with a hair dryer (paint was still wet, I was in a hurry and wanted to take the piece with me to show it some friends). The spikes of the fork will be turned into icicles later, so they wont go to waste.

Great work on the potions and the books. The detail on those is incredible. How did you do the open book on the desk? Looks a bit different from DMG's method.
(Bookshelves are on my list for next weekend btw.)

(Bookshelves are on my list for next weekend btw.) The books are maded from the spine of a magazine (I used an old national geographic). This way they actually have pages. Just take a ruler and start cutting until it goes all of the way through. Then you cut the little books out of the spine strip. After that I used white glue to glue different colored papers to each one. The open book is just one that I glued open.

Absolutely brilliant potion bottles and books! Now I know what to build for my wizards! I've used beads before as pottery vessels for Darkest Africa huts. They work quite nicely.

Those potions from beads are amazing. They just work well, and I like the idea of using the discarded magazine spine as a book. So much junk mail is now going to be used for crafting.

Day 4 Cleaning out my bits bin. Today I used up some of my plastic "junk" that I have been amassing. First one is just a Tropicana OJ lid that I stuck a little dragon looking toy I got at a yard sale. I painted it to look like a statue with shiny gem like eyes. The next one is a bit more complex. I used another OJ lid but this time I used the skulls from the dollar store rings. On top of that is a woodsie like used in DM Scotty's braziers. Then some claw looking toy I got from the goodwill toy bin (added some skull rings to it too). Topped off with a cool little "floating" pyramid toy also from goodwill. Not sure exactly what this thing is, some sort of evil artifact I guess. I have also been working on a pretty huge tile that I will put pics of up tomorrow.

Aren't those fancy O.J. lids just phenomenal for crafting? And those potions out of beads are very cool. I know what I'm crafting next!
